The inclement weather and low cloud somewhat coloured my enjoyment of this hill. We walked from Coniston, through the mine workings and past the Youth Hostel, up past the tarn, turning north onto the indeterminate ridge line. High winds raised cats paws on the ponds, and buffeted us, so that we did not pause for rest. Ever so glad to get back dorm to to The Sun Inn for a post walk pint

Met these two lovely erratics on my hike, and asked them where they'd come from! Said they had been resting up the valley until some dreadfully rude subaerial processes came and dislodged them, and then they were carried here subglacially, via quarrying!

Fairly easy climb that can be done at any speed. If you choose your day well you can get a stunning view from the top!

It’s a quick ‘bag’ in reality with a steep 2.4 mile climb to the top. Great views and but boggy underfoot in places. Overall clear marked path up. Be careful of the weather on top. Can come in very quickly and visibility turns to zero! Walk on and round to the Old Man for a...
