Champneys Tring appears from the outside and initial areas to be a gorgeous well kept place but look a bit closer and you will find mouldy ceilings dirty hot tub and surrounds missing tiles limescale build up and an overall not cared for ambiance. Arrived here for spa day, first impression looked lovely fresh clean and well kept I had to stand in a queue for quite a while waiting to be checked in. We had asked for larger bath robes which they said they would accommodate we were given robes and also a bag and flip flops we could keep after the day. Was offered breakfast and when we got to the room the majority had already been eaten and drunk but there was some things left so managed to get something to eat and drink no staff to ask for other items etc Went to the changing area only three private rooms for ladies to change in (it was a very busy day) no notices up to explain how to use the locker system, also noticed mould on the ceiling in the shower area where I got changed. Bathrobe nor flip flops fitted properly took the robe back was given and even smaller one took this back managed to get an bigger one after a long wait but even that one barely covered my top half but I didn't want to delay everyone else I was with anymore so I reluctantly accepted it and wasn't comfortable in it for the rest of the day later I changed back into clothes for lunch and then had to put on my cold wet swimming stuff back on!! Went to the large indoors swimming area(not the pool) and went for a dip when we got out someone had taken my slippers I had to walk barefoot with my barely covering me robe back to reception where there was lots of people waiting to check in and ask for another pair of flip flops I asked for a size large was told no large(only small or medium when I'm a size 8 shoe!!!) and I had to accept the medium that barely covered my feet and were uncomfortable!!! Went into the outside hot tub where I noticed detritus floating in the water after I was in it for a while also lots of hair in the water too around the outside was dirty with some tiles missing from the surround. Sauna and steam room good but very small only fit around five people in the steam room noticed the bottom of the doors were rusty and had limescale build up on them too! I also noticed not many staff around to help when I had my flip flops stolen I had no choice but to go to main reception myself as no staff around to help me also noticed no one around to offer towels and didn't know where to find towels luckily I had brought my own anyway so used that at the end of the day. The lunch was very good, a good selection and it was buffet style which I enjoyed but I noticed they had cleared all the food away by the time I wanted to go up for more only desserts were left out! Overall I would say it was ok for the price(£99) but could have been an easier day for me if they catered for my shoe size and body size I am definitely bigger than average but not that much but because of the lack of things to fit me it makes you feel as if you are gigantic not a pleasant way to spend a day!! I've been to much better spas which were more expensive but a much much much more pleasant experience with robes and shoes to fit me and plenty of staff to help if required cleaner better managed surroundings (Sopwell House spa in St Albans is elite!!!) and cleaner! I won't be going back to Champneys that's for sure I'd rather pay double or even triple for a much...
Read moreFirstly, we arrived and first thing we noticed was how COLD the venue was. Absolutely freezing, people hugging their towels in their robes. Alongside this in every room away from the swimming pool, ie relaxation were absolutely Baltic and not relaxing at all. The water beds themselves were absolutely freeezing.
Secondly, the spa being SO packed. It was so busy to the point where people would be sat in the middle of a crowded hot tub with people sat around the sides?? Why is this not accommodated for a full stay??
Thirdly, the rude staff. Not once did I received a smile even from check in, the cleaners, the waiters and everyone, so rude? Maybe overworked perhaps but at least hire people that may adhere to some sort of customer service??
Fourthly, the food! Wow, I have never experienced anything like it. We both ordered a steak of the menu, my partners was BURNT. My one was frozen cold on the inside and basically RAW. Even the waitor laughed and took it away in disgust. We then got fed a chicken dish which looked completely inedible so we had to in fact go to McDonald’s to get some food. Alongside this, we both had bruschetta where the bread was completely stale.
Fifthly, the absolute state of the room? It was vile, I’m sure this is not the first time someone has told you. The cups were filthy, drains were blocked so the shower water couldn’t go down properly. The shower also had mould stained everywhere!!? Our robes also had staines on which were red and had to give them back for new ones.
How this place is still open is beyond me, and to even call yourselves luxury is absolutely mental. We did not sleep at all with how hollow the walls were and were quite frankly starving throughout. We left EARLY from...

I had high expectations for Champneys Tring, but the reality was incredibly disappointing. The entire place feels tired, outdated, and in desperate need of a full refurbishment. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unwelcoming and rude – not what you expect from a supposed luxury spa.
The venue itself is much smaller than advertised, with nowhere to truly relax. Every single lounger and relaxation bed was taken, and to make matters worse, some of the beds were broken. The relaxation room felt more like a cramped waiting room than a peaceful escape.
The facilities were shocking. Toilets and showers were dirty, stained with limescale, and in many cases broken or poorly maintained. The robes provided were stained and frankly unhygienic. I expected so much more from a place that charges premium prices.
To top it off, the buffet lunch was unappetizing and even had flies hovering over the food – completely unacceptable in any environment, let alone one claiming to offer a wellness experience.
All in all, this was one of the worst spa visits I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favour and stay well clear of Champneys Tring – it’s not worth your...
