One of the better mountain/hill walks in the lake district. We woke up at 4.30am for this walk. We parked at the high cascades carpark around 5am and followed the sign over the bridge to 'Gowbarrow Fell'. Make sure you have walking boots, suitable clothes and a torch of some sort if you are planning on an early morning or late evening hike at this time of year.
Our aim was to get a photo of a cloud inversion over Ullswater, the weather conditions were perfect but sadly the wind changed as we climbed and we got engulfed in a mist and sleet as we made our way up in the dark with our torches. We did manage to get some photos of the misty lake below us though which we love. Stick to the left hand side by the wall, it is where the path is and you can easily lose your footing if you stray too far away.
We had snacks and a flask of hot tea with us to enjoy as we got to the top of the fell and took in the scenery. We saw only one other person at this time of the morning and it was as we were making our way back down. It will be very busy if you plan to come here towards noon, so plan well. Make sure you keep hydrated and have some energy boosting snacks with you. It took us around 2 hours in the weather conditions.
We visited Aira Force after we descended and had a walk around the woods before heading back home. It was a really great morning and one I will never forget (my partner proposed ontop...
Read moreWe did the Aira force and Gowbarrow park circular trek. The waterfall was lovely and the views along the teek were so very beautiful and breathtaking.
However, the trek is definitely a hard / medium-hard one as it gets quiet steep as you climb the peak and is a narrow path on the edge of the hill on the way down (depending on which direction one takes).
We went during spring and the path was not fully dry yet and was slippery (a member of our group fell down on the path while trying to cross a particularly muddy patch !!).
Would definitely visit again, but maybe in summer this time and definitely not as a...
Read moreWeather wasn't on our side. Wet n windy. Was a good experience as it was our first hike in the Lakes. We started at 1pm, finished at 3:45pm. To plan your hike, best to consult Dr YouTube to find good videos to help you plan your hikes. We "Day" parked for £9, while for 4 hours is £7. So depends on your speed of hike. 4 hours is more than enough or if you do the whole loop hike, you may need to park more than 4 hours. It's just £2 difference. So prob not...
