A huge dinosaur fossil left over from the mining era! Once supporting tracks for the coal trains that ran in and out of Yorkshire Main colliery in Edlington. It took a trillion bricks and cost several lives to construct this viaduct over the river Don. The pathway that now allows you to walk over runs straight on to the Pennine Trail going to Barnsley or Doncaster. The route a long the Don towards Doncaster is a really beautiful walk. It brings you out in Sprotborough at the Boat Inn.

No picture can show how tall is that bridge!! easy parking 4minutes walk from that bridge. Please note- closed for trains you can walk, ride bicycle or even cross bike, all way through, you can hear close-by train thou. It's like Scottish bridge I saw but open for public!

Parked for free outside the Boat Inn (on google called nursery lane car park) and walked to the Viaduct along the River Don. Good walk, and would be much nicer in spring/summer. Just a warning to be careful if you have a nervous dog, or one that doesnt like loud bangs! Many loud bangs were heard on the way back, equivalent to gun shots which might be from the quarry close by setting off explosives. If our dog was not on a lead we would have lost her, probably for good because of how scared she was and didn't settle properly until we got home. Might avoid this issue on a weekend, as it was a weekday...

Amazing walk up to it.lovely idyllic woodland walk before you get there with snippets if the viaduct seen through the trees . lots of bike trails throughout, a kids paradise..lots of hiding places etc. Stunning views off the top of the viaduct in both directions..of conisborough Castle one side and marshy land and the river Don the other. Along the footpath the other side we came to The Earth Centre..doubling back.. Take care not to take the path down off the main path, saying public footpath, under the railway bridge,as its a dead end and we had to walk miles back! Would definately...

Really enjoyed it to walk with my husband and two dogs but it is shameful that joyride motorbikes running around passed people walked with their baby in pram and frightened to my jack Russell terrier... joyride is not bothered, ride fast and not slow down... But the sign say police warning and other signs say only allowed people walked and cycled only and no allowed motorbike joyrider .... police Should be walked around and checked any joyrider about .... SHOULD BE BANNED joyriders to conisbrough...
