Walking around Ennerdale Water was a lot harder for me than I had anticipated. I went with a friend who walks regularly. Approaching from the car park, the right-hand (south) side is very rocky, narrow in places and at one point you have to climb up some rocks. It's not a path but a meander around the lake with only rocks to walk on. The views are very rewarding from this right-hand side.
After reaching the end of the lake, the route goes over fields and then the left-hand (north) side is basically a hard road or mainly clearly defined and mostly flat path.
I hadn't walked for years and it took me, with a few rests and lunch break, 5 and a half hours to walk around. Tough going on the ankles and knees.
I'd advise take the right-hand side first because you'll get the hardest half done with a more leisurely walk afterwards. Enjoy taking photos all...

The walk itself around the lake is long but an easy hike....there are some spectacular trees to see.... And an informative map of the lake with various bits of information.. Such as the Arctic char that have inhabited the lake since the last ice age.... If your the area and fancy an amazing lake side walk accompanied by spectacular views.... Then make the stop off... There are two car parks.... One at the begining and one in the middle... We went to the one in the middle... It wasn't too busy and we hardly seen other people...

There is a steep scrabbly section ? called Anglers path . We walked to the left but views would have been better from the opposite direction . Walking shoes/ boots recommended , could be very slippy in the wet. There is a car park . This day was extremely warm and a hat and water essential . There are no facilities nearby. There is also a woodland walk but didn’t do...
