Superb views. Parked at gummers how car park, crossed the road and straight onto the path and heading up towards the summit. The walk up is perhaps 45 degrees of stone, misshapen steps that take a degree of attention, and lastly a bit of grassy trek to the very peak. It is very fair to say that for that (compared to some) climbs, i DID NOT expect THAT view, as when the mist begun to lift suddenly it became apparent I was looking hundreds of feet down into lake windamere and it was pretty mind blowing as I hadn't expected it to be there BUT it was, AND it was spectacular. Even the cows on this walk are the nicest looking I've ever seen in my life and don't even seem to notice you there (which is good - as I don't like cows, especially horned ones), but overall, for a reasonably quick walk with maximum views then this is a 5 star walk you CANNOT miss. It is not suitable for prams etc or maybe very small children but I'm sure will provide views you will...

I live right at the foot of this wonderful little hill and am up it a number of times each week.

One well-known writer ranks the view amongst the top 10 in England and it's hard to disagree, especially considering the relatively modest effort involved in reaching the summit.

From the top you enjoy an extensive panorama from Morecambe Bay to Coniston Old Man, up the whole length of Widermere to the Langdales and the Fairfield Round, and across to the Pennines.

The best time is sunset, when the beauty can be heart-stopping.

A lot of visitors miss the ridge that continues on from the summit and offers a pleasant way to extend your walk - though it can be wet underfoot.

Just be aware that the track is rough and should be treated with respect, and that in poor weather the conditions on top can be arctic despite the...

Did my research on this backwards. Found it, walked it, then looked it up and found its a Wainwright Walk for those who like the "outer fells" - basically those not as steep/challenging etc.

We parked in the car park, there were spaces late Sunday morning in March but can imagine how busy this place gets. There was no one there though when I found it at 6.30am earlier in the day.

There are indeed numerous routes up and the cows ๐Ÿ„ are friendly and offer something different to the usual fell sheep.

When we ventured up and down the youngest looked about 4 and at the senior end there was definitely 80+ on a very enjoyable walk and as usual lots of people talking and friendly on the fells.

Well worth it. Walk from the lake for a more strenuous walk or walk from the car park for a quick and enjoyable way to scale a...
