Beautiful scenic area, I would say second to none compared with surprise view. The best location to be at is perched on the mountain car park next to the dales below. Everything here feels terrifically old and aged but that just adds to the terror and awe you feel sometimes like in astronomy. The is a collection pillar for donations to fund the car park with at least £3+ asked for, I kindly put £5.00 into the pillar because locations like this would not be here without people's donations, the more you give the more chance of being able to stop on-route here to take in the view at first glance and have those all-time selfies taken. All the buildings here are very historic being made from slate which is mined close by and used to be quarried instead. There are signs are immediate quarrying in the area, you can access the work through the years. The air is fresh, and the climate is awe-inspiring. You will notice the difference between the congested social life of the city areas as I was born in London and had never been to this most visited tourist spot in the UK, which I now wish I had because it is awe-inspiring to see the fundamentals of mother Earth, and what Mother Nature has done and to what effect has been...
Read moreGreat hike. Stunning views. We took the bus up to Kirkstone Pass Inn, then up the steep rocky climb. Took us 1 hour, reasonably active adults carrying an infant. We took the longer, less steep, route back to Ambleside, as the way down may have been a bit too steep while wearing an infant. It was a bit boggy so hiking shoes rather than running shoes would have been preferable. Overall took us 3.5 hours from starting at Kirkstone Pass to getting to the bus stop in Ambleside. It is more convenient to catch the bus from Ambleside than Kirkstone...
Read moreThe walk up to Red Screes from the Kirkstone Pass Inn is steep, but not scrambly. The views from Red Screes are superb on a good day, and the walk down the ridge to Ambleside is a pleasure - and surprisingly quick. 90 minutes from Red Screes to a cake and a cuppa in Ambleside. You can also get to Red Screes by going up Scandale (past High Sweden Bridge, on and on up the valley, then up to the Scandale Pass and then turn sharp right at the pass), making a good circular walk out...
