One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Been here more times than I can count, and it never ever gets old. Every single part of this mountain has something interesting. Most notably Great Slab, Angle Tarn, Hell Gill, and the view from the top of course. The main two paths (up The Band to Three Tarns; and up Rosset Ghyll via Angle Tarn) are not too hard, with no scrambling except to get up the summit pyramid, but it does get quite rough near the top. The more adventurous route along the climber's traverse to great slab is very exposed but not too physically challenging, and there's a spring at the foot of Great Slab providing delicious water. This route to be attempted in bad weather though. The route past Whorneyside Force and Hell Gill is beautiful but has a few scrambling sections near the waterfalls and shouldn't be attempted in wet weather, as the gill becomes very challenging to cross and the path becomes very slippery and boggy.

Great mountain walk with wonderful views of the valley. Allow for around 6 hours if you are a novice walker. Not for the feint hearted - practically a staircase for 75% of the walk. Parking at Stickle Ghyll car park - get there early as it fills up quickly! Roughly an hours walk to the start of the ascent. Prepare to pay £9 to park here unless you are a National Trust member, in which case it is free - if you have the app! Car park is cash only unless you have JustPark - i would suggest downloading beforehand as there is no signal.

The Great Langdale area of Lakeland is abosutely superb.. the walk from the Old Dungeon ghyll hotel, along Oxendale, up & along the Crinkles, bait @ 3 tarns, then instead of the direct route onto Bowfell walk a little way down the Band & locate the Climbers traverse which takes you under Flat crag to Cambridge crag then after a rest n a beaker of fresh runnin' water & a bit of a watch of climbers on Bowfell butress it up onto Great slab & then Bowfell summit

Parking at the Old Dungeon Ghyll public car park (£7.50 for the day), we hiked up to Bowfell (the 6th highest Wainright @ 902 m) on a gorgeously sunny day in March 2022. It was a good job we started reasonably early as the heat of the day would have made the experience less enjoyable, but as it was we were up the mountain in good time and before the temperature climed. It is a a clear and well trodden path (we ascended on the route known as 'The Band') that climbs up from the Langdale valley floor. Nearing the top the area opens out, roughly from Great Slab to the peak, which is more bolder flat and the path less clear. One should take care here as the weather can change quickly and it would be easy to loose your direction / orientation if cloudy / misty. As the photos will show, it was beautifully clear for us on this day - the view at the top was 360, with great views overlooking adjacent valleys and ranges. On the descent, we took the 'Buscoe' route, which follows the stream - lots of lovely pools to dip in if you have the time and has a nice waterfall. Give the hike a good 2-4 hrs depending on fitness and number/length of...

We made it.. 😁.. Myself and my Daughter conquered this climb 10/10/24..weather perfect for the climb, sunny but cool, perfect for the views as we climbed, then amazing views from the top, over to the coast and the stunning panoramic views looking over the langdales (started the walk from there) and beyond... Carried on to Esk pike and over to Angle tarn, saw the Bowfell slab.. Then carried on meandering down to path back down to Langdale Dundeon ghyll.. ((10.30p.m).. Recommend going a bit earlier than we set off.. But then we were fortunate enough to see the Arora Northern lights.. Perfect to a...
