Disappointing, planned to stay there overnight, but when I got there I found out that they charge, a lot. Full day (I assume 6 to 22) is £5, but overnight (according to them 21 to 9am) is £10. No facilities whatsoever, so they require toilet on board to stay there. Also machine (that looks quite new) takes only coins. Are they joking? Two stars, because in the end it's a nice looking place.

Oh my goodness it was a stormy night. We stayed in our camper van van up there on 28 December 2023. We had Googled and knew we needed to buy a ticket for overnight parking from the castle car park. Can stay 9pm until 9am space permitting. It was a lovely spot but weather was tricky. Would go again. Next time we could take £10 coins to save on the 20 minute drive to Castle car park.

Superb views over Kielder water and the surrounding forest. £5 to park all day (ticket is transferable between all car parks in the Kielder Forest Park) or £10 to stay the night (Camper Van or Motorhome only, no camping!) A great place to view the night sky in the darkest area in England. Be prepared for midges, though..... headnet and repellent is a must unless there's a breeze!

Beautiful location and views. Car park close by requires coin only payment. We went there to watch the sunset and wait for nightfall. Forgot the insect repellent - massive mistake, took 5 minutes and we were swarmed by midges. I got bit quite a lot and we had to retreat to the car. We watched the first stars start to appear and it was great, kids loved it. We weren’t staying the night and were heading back to Gateshead. I’m a reasonably confident driver and used to driving country roads in darkness, but these were challenging - lots of tight bends, blind dips, and steep terrain. Near miss with a calf and then a sheep. If you want to star gaze, stay the night, bring insect repellent and a head net. And check the weather for...

Beware - no overnight parking allowed unless you have a campervan/motorhome. The online parking booking mentions Elfkirk as one of the places it covers (* display the booking ref) but given the inaccuracies between what we read before we came, were told when we arrived and what we saw on the ground I wouldn't trust it. Bring coins and a big diesel vehicle with a chemical toilet to be sure of not being kicked out by security in the middle...
