Love the place..always buzzing with families and hikers.Had wanted to climb to see Daragh, one of the Sperrin Giants so set off on the Purple Trail ,thinking it wouldn't be top difficult as I saw kids and their families setting off. I was wrong...this is a beautiful walk, but be warned its not easy,it takes well over an hour and you are walking uphill,so I found it really tiring in some places...although I was put to shame by a lovely young couple who were pushing their son up in a BUGGY....I met another family who had obviously assumed it would be a treat for the kids...just PLEASE take the incline into consideration..its not fair to drag little ones up that hill...granted it is stunning, and the views are spectacular but if you want a casual, fun walk with the kids I would caution you to consider it . The Giant himself is gorgeous and the area is so well maintained...just take some water...
Read moreTwo good play areas for the kids. Plenty of walks for dogs, bikes, etc. Disappointed that the "wildlife" section only had two geese in it and that they were caged in the space. The same goes with the deer section - at least it was nice to see them close up. I regularly take chopped apples for them so they're used to me now. There is one who will now eat from my hand. Absolutely amazing!! Highlight of my week. 😁 Toilets are behind the coffee shop (not signposted) The maps are somewhat difficult to read - it's not always clear which is a road and a path. Needless to say, we had to backtrack on ourselves several times. Beautiful place to visit though.
Edit: I joined friends of the Glens walking group each Saturday morning and we enjoy different walks around the area having a coffee stop along the way. We then enjoy lunch in...
Read moreStrenuous climb, steep from near the bottom car park. but worth every effort to reach Darach. Took us under 4 hrs to complete, stopping numerous times for pics and a breather. The 360° views are spectacular at the summit. The only litter bins we saw was near the picnic area at the start of the walk, with the odd dog litter bin along the way. It's possible to drive up slightly closer to Darach, if you choose to drive the senic route through the forest, but no real space for parking up there, and even from that point the climb is still a tough 1. There's a Butterfly revolution going on here. It's good to see them in abundance, they are thriving in the Sperrins. The local Deer showed themselves on the day and a young...
