The views from here are Spectacular! Truly breathtaking. You do need to be prepared for the long trek. Come in comfortable clothes and shoes and some waterproofs.

The sign post is on the ground, not raised up like other signs along the path. So it is very easy to miss.

I have a few friends who went there before me and then with me and they completely missed the view because of the sign post being on the ground.

They thought that the tree that was growing on rocks, as spectacular as it was, it was not the Devil's Pulpit.

My daughter and I saw it on Tony Robinson's program on the BBC about historical walks on the BBC a while ago so we knew to look out for the ledge that overlooks Tintern Abbey. The legend was that the devil tried to preach from there to deter the pilgrims travelling to the Abbey and whn he could not, he lost his temper and stamped on the ground in anger leaving...

We walked up to The Devil's Pulpit from Tintern Abbey about 5 years ago ( as many people do ). This time we decided to walk from the Lower Tidenham car park. This is a pleasant half hour stroll via rocky heathland , woods & fields & easy enough for anyone moderately fit. Being on Offa's Dyke you may , of course , just come upon The Pulpit. Undeniably a decent view from here via a window through the wooded hillside to Tintern Abbey far below. Legend has it the The Devil preached from here to the monks in the Abbey with a view to corrupting them. The stretch of Offa's Dyke in this area is very beautiful , particularly in Spring with swathes of wild garlic & the fresh green of the...

Perfect spot for thrill-seekers! Note that there’s no dedicated car park, so you’ll need to leave your vehicle before the left turn where stones mark the space for parking. From there, take the road—not the fields for a safer walk to the bridge. Follow the long, winding ‘S’ turn , and you’ll eventually find the bridge, look to the left side for the access point.

A word of caution: wear sturdy mountain shoes! I had a few slips because of wet leaves, which made it tricky without good grip. When you start descending, you’ll encounter a steep staircase that’s slippery but manageable with the right footwear. Enjoy...
