Just returned home from a 2 night stay in Wren 23. |What can I say, I'll start with the |Positives|Lovely location|Seen a bit of wildlife|Lovely little walk around the park||Negatives|Smell of damp|Very limited kitchen utensils and crockery|Needs maintenance |Not as peaceful as previous stay||So I'll into a bit more detail.|The park itself is lovely. There's a nice little walk around the park where we saw pheasants and some newts in the pond. It's lovely waking up to the sounds of the birds cheeping, wonderful! |Now, me and my hubby stayed at Kaewood last year in the hive away (couldn't fault it) where as Wren 23 is quite different. Don't get me wrong it wasn't dreadful but it could do with some TLC. On arrival it felt cold inside so we put the heating on. However, when you have the heating on you seem to smell a bit of damp. Anyway, this is Wales so you get used to damp. The kitchen needs more utensils! I understand it's only for 2 people but wouldn't hurt to have more than 2 of everything. |Kitchen cupboards were also a little untidy and had some cobwebs inside. The fridge had no milk compartment nor a salad tray but was clean. The freezer was full of ice from previous guests (frozen solid) One of the chairs to the dining table has a really wobbly leg (unsafe) |The bedroom looked ok but wallpaper on the wall needs replacing as there's bits missing. Again, cobwebs and spiders in the corners. The bed, well that just needs chucking out! There's a large dip on the left hand side and the mattress itself is grubby (thank God for clean bedding) also a little sqeeky as it's an old metal bedframe. Nice view of the pond out of the bedroom window though so not all bad. |The bathroom looked nice and quite big. The bottom row of grout (in the shower) looked grubby. I will say the shower itself is really nice but could do with a better shower head. Nice sink! Heated towel rail is a plus.|It's the small things that make a big difference, like cleaning under the sofa cushions (quite a few pet hairs) getting rid of cobwebs and spiders would be a great start.|The outside area of this particular lodge looked tired. The woodwork needs a tidy up, the AstroTurf, around the hot tub, needs replacing and the lid to the hot tub......well just hope you have muscles to take it off and then put it back on cause my gosh it's heavy! Like I say it's little things that would make it so much better. |Oh one thing I will mention and I can't exactly blame the park for this but other guests were noisy! I wouldn't mind but it continued past midnight. |Last thing and I think it's important to mention there is NO first aid kit in this lodge so might be worth taking your own.|I have stayed here twice now and did consider coming again but think I will pass as it's not a cheap place to stay and expect better...

Read moreThe 5 star reviews of this place are misleading and misguided, however Iâm not here to tell other guests how their stay was as itâs all about opinion. I can only give my honest one about my experience.||Our lodge (Goldcrest 4) was booked for 3 nights over the New Year period (30th until 2nd). We had an absolute bargain and paid under ÂŁ200 per person, however that shouldnât mean that the quality dips (dramatically). Iâve stayed here before and it was fairly decent (still not amazing but much better than this time around).||The lodge smelt damp upon arrival and so we opened the windows to air it out. It was very unclean, with dust and grime everywhere and the sofas had lots of holes in them as well as old crumbs down the sides.||There was a problem with one of the showers (you had to turn on the hot water tap from the sink to get the shower to turn on) and the hot water boiler made such a racket when in use. Like a huge truck horn going until someone stopped using hot water⊠not ideal when people wash their hands at 3 in the morning. ||The shower pressure was a bit soft but easier to hold the shower closer to your body to ensure cleanliness. ||The hot tub⊠the main reason for staying at these lodges⊠Filthy. Not sure if the water had been changed upon arrival, but 2 of the guests got hot tub rash after use (kicked in a few days after leaving).||My swimwear has the usual white netting in and it turned brown after sitting in the hot tub a couple of times. I was grossly aware whilst sitting in it, that it was not as clean as it should be and so only stayed in for about 20 minutes at a time.||The double bed in the main bedroom was comfortable however the frame is broken and so the slightest movement causes a loud creaking sound which kept me up most nights.||For New Years Eve, we decided to pop up some temporary decorations and when we moved one of the canvases off the wall, it was covering a huge hole which looked like someone had punched through. Same for the back of the door in the main bedroom, another hole that looked like it had been punched.||I was told to contact someone about the issues but there was nobody on site except for the early hours of the morning (and letâs be real, it was new years so none of us were awake to catch them). ||I personally wonât be visiting here again (twice was more than enough).||If you want some good food, I recommend the Fox & Hounds pub about a 10 minute drive away. Amazing...
