Taking a road trip to Snowdonia via Llanberis Pass is a fantastic experience that offers some of the most stunning views in the region. The drive through the pass is one of the most scenic routes in Wales, showcasing the breathtaking natural beauty of Snowdonia.
As you approach the pass, you'll begin to notice the landscape changing as you enter the heart of Snowdonia National Park. The road winds through a picturesque valley surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks, including Snowdon and Glyder Fawr. The views are truly awe-inspiring, with steep cliffs, lush greenery, and serene lakes.
The drive through Llanberis Pass takes you along the A4086 road, which is well-maintained but can be narrow in some sections. Be prepared for sharp bends and steep gradients, so it's important to drive carefully and enjoy the journey at a leisurely pace.
There are several laybys and parking areas along the pass where you can stop to take in the views or snap some photos. The landscape is especially beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon when the light casts a warm glow on the mountains.
As you continue your journey, you'll pass by Pen-y-Pass, a popular starting point for hiking trails up Snowdon. If you have time, consider stopping for a hike or walk to experience the natural beauty up close.
The road trip through Llanberis Pass is not just about the journey—it's also a gateway to some of Snowdonia's most charming villages, such as Llanberis and Betws-y-Coed. These villages offer cozy cafes, local shops, and a taste of traditional Welsh...

Read moreThe most awesome mountain pass and road in Wales. It's right up there with Glen Coe in Scotland. I'll always love this place and visit it often when in Snowdonia. The top of the road reaches 1180ft above sea level. Crib Goch mountain is clearly visible near the top of the pass and often mistaken for Snowdon. Snowdon is set further back however, but you may get a glimpse of it towering over Crib Goch. There's no other mountain pass in Wales, or England that can match this one...
