Lovely beach but be wary about camping here. Was unsure whether 'wild camping' was possible here as read a mixture of reviews online. When entering the town of Lunan you are greeted with a 'locals only please' sign and the roads are dotted with cones to stop road side parking - it seems the town is fed up with visitors. The beach has a gate and signs saying no overnight parking and the gate is locked at 9pm. Despite this there were a number of tents on the beach and when asked people said camping is fine, with people believing the gate is never locked. We waited until 9 and along came a local man who locked the gate. He then took photos of all the cars parked inside the car park to send to the council to fine. He said while camping on the beach is technically allowed, the town doesn't allow overnight parking, so really they're trying to put a stop to the camping as well. There's a few parking spots outside the car park but he says they get fined too. We left, not wanting to risk a fine, but others thought screw it and stayed. Who knows if they ever get fined but it definitely seems the locals don't want you...
Read moreThis is an absolutely beautiful beach! A long, long, very wide stretch of clean, fine, golden sand beach backed up by dunes covered in long grass. There's a viewing platform with informational signs a short walk down a boardwalk from the large, free car park. There are stairs and sand paths down to the beach. In spite of a cool breeze, there were people swimming; I enjoyed wading in the clear, shallow water. A couple of riders on horseback were fun to watch as the horses pranced in the surf. This would be a terrific beach for picnicking as it's very family friendly but getting your own umbrella if shade is desired as there no cover from the sun. Don't miss Lunan Bay Beach, it's definitely...
Read moreSurely one of the best beaches on the entire east coast , a long 2 miles of golden sand with rocks and caves at the northern end and a ruined castle overlooking the central part . A large car park at the end of a narrow lane was busy enough for our visit on a March Sunday so I can only surmise about how packed a summer Saturday would be , still with the car park 3/4 full the beach seemed empty with lots of space between everybody as the beach is so large, theres a nice viewing platform as you join the beach to take in the views , we will definitely be back to explore the southern end on the other side of...
