We have stayed at numerous campsites over the years and this has to be one of the very, very best.

The site is impeccably maintained and the staff, all of them, always say ‘hello’ and are very friendly.

There is a small shop, where the reception is, and you can buy all your basics. Again impeccably clean.

There is no bar, cafe or social area, and they do not like people playing music that will disturb others. However, that isn’t a bad thing! We visited early May bank holiday, and the shop was open until 6pm, fairly reasonably priced.

The shower block is no 1 for cleanliness and condition out of all sites we’ve visited. High vault ceilings with no cobwebs! Spotless throughout the day. Good showers that you can alter the temperature, push button operation, but not ones you find yourself constantly pressing. The block nearest to us had electric hand dryers and a hairdryer in the ladies. I know I’ve said it, but I cannot reiterate how spotless they were every single time I used them.

Pitches - we were on the premium pitches, all a good size, with waste water, fresh water, tv aerial and electric. Also tokens for a dishwasher (located a short distance away and for use of dishes, requested not to put pots and pans in) We didn’t use this but apparently is very quick. We walked around the site to find the standard pitches, they too all appeared to be a good size. You are not allocated a pitch, you choose it on arrival, assuming this is the same for standard pitches. They ask you to position your caravan as shown on the each pitch plan, they told us they are quite strict on this. And this is most likely to meet with the fire safety requirements.

They have a couple of visiting ‘fast food’ vans visit on certain days of week, these are show on a calendar outside of reception. There didn’t seem to be a regular schedule for these as such and we didn’t try any during our week-long break.

Ambleside is approximately a two mile walk although this includes the walk from our pitch and the site has a reasonably long driveway.

The site has a lot of static vans, many of which looked like they were privately owned. I think they also have some cottages they let but cannot be certain on that.

Great site and great staff, no need to say we will...

A very beautiful site well organised and was pleased with choosing your own pitch. The facilities are very clean with great showers and the site is in a great location close to Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston. Upon arrival we had to wait til 2pm on the dot to enter with the caravan even though on the phone we was told there was a chance we could get on to a pitch earlier once the wardens had done there checks. This then meant there was a queue at the entrance and everyone has to enter at once and check in which seemed silly. The warden which greeted us at 2pm wasn’t informative and just said “off you go” we had to say we have never been before what is the procedure? As the drive is very long and the site can be confusing to navigate if you’ve never been before, since then we felt this warden took a disliking to us in his demeanour. It felt abit prison like, with him constantly patrolling round our caravan making comments and being petty over a sticker they give you in the window , he approached our awning walked right up to the door whilst we were relaxing in our caravan and interrupted saying “put your sticker in the window” I said it’s in the car window? He said in the caravan window , bare in mind this is a day before we are due to leave and yet the 2 days prior with all the patrolling around they do, no one mentioned anything. At check in the man said “put this in your window” which isn’t clear so of course we put it in the car like most other sites. This made us realise how petty this site can be such as the 8.5mph speed limit, the precise diagram of how to park your caravan /awning and car and the 2pm on the dot check in when half the pitches were empty( a lady walking past the entrance said to us all waiting that the site was half empty and it was ridiculous us all sitting there in the heat) so overall the site is very clean and we did enjoy our stay but some of the rules are over kill and it’s a shame there are wardens it would have a nicer feel without the need to patrol. Perhaps because we are a young couple in an old caravan this particular warden...

This is from a Tourer POV - the static vans may have a different experience.||This site sucks the enjoyment out of a break. For the £ we paid - I was looking forward to a lovely visit . Your 4.9 rating is very misleading ||The rules are endless - I don’t have a problem with this except that rules only apply to guests, not the site.||The pitches are tightly packed together on a gravel carpark with no views, no privacy other than other vans… this is a huge site & could be made so much nicer for guests. It makes for a very claustrophobic experience . I am used to staying on forest sites e.g Coniston Coppice who make such an effort to provide a pleasant stay.||The wardens are constantly driving around looking out for infringements - which makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere.||The toilets & showers are a joke ! Not enough for the amount of tourers being charged an exorbitant price to stay at. Always a queue, and to make life particularly unpleasant the staff close them for cleaning mid morning, which is a busy time. There are no details of timings, so if you time it badly you have a very long walk to the alternative ones. Apparently you can ask for the key to the disabled toilets - no notification of this anywhere - just told by the lady cleaning.|This site has a notice of everything you can & cant do - except this !!!|We moved to a site that had 3 x the amount of showers & toilets for a similar size site.|FYI Mgt - Customer focussed sites realise that people are on holiday and don’t need the stress you put on guests by your bizarre attitude. The majority of sites clean between 12-4 …||After reading reviews this has been an issue with this site for many years - which the Mgt have clearly decided to ignore.||I am writing this for the benefit of future guests so that they can see the reality of...

This is without doubt a beautiful location set in the middle of a forest and is very close to the great cycle routes around the lake. All facilities were spotlessly clean. We chose to park in the Coppice area in our California camper van next to our daughter’s basecamp caravan that had been set up 2 days before we arrived. This was a great location next to the lovely play park. We arrived in the pouring rain and set up with camp cosy, awning ground sheets, turned the seats round etc etc and just as we were enjoying a drink and snack with our grandchildren we were asked by the warden to move our van to face the other way. I understand the fire rules and distance apart but our daughter’s base camp caravan has an awning on the back not on the side. Our van literally has a pull out canopy with zip in sides… it’s not a full awning. We duly pulled it all down in the rain and turned the van around as instructed. By doing this we actually moved our gas bottle and stove closer to their van! The rules didn’t make sense for our particular set up. After dismantling everything and getting soaking wet again, a friendly lady in a buggy came around just 30 minutes later and asked us to move it all again. We were still not in the right place! I’m afraid we refused to do so. I would recommend this beautiful site but please make sure you are very clear about the exact place to park especially with a camper van and make sure you follow the rules. Maybe best to ask the warden to come down with you to make sure you’re doing it right first time. Also be prepared for a walk to the heated floor showers, dishwash area, laundry and library on the premium part of the site if you choose to park in the Coppice.

Just returned from our 5 night stay with our touring caravan. What can I say the site is absolutely spotless! We stayed on the premium pitches which looked to have a little bit more of a roomy pitch than the standard ones on the site from what I saw, been on the premium pitches gives you access to closer toilet and shower facilities and library which where a stones throw away from your pitch which when you have a child is great not having to trek half the site to get to the facilities. The staff where amazing very friendly and nolagable always waving as they drive by on there daily routine checks etc. A massive shout-out to 3 particular wardens who took the time to stop and chat I think one guy was possibly Steve I aren't sure another guy which I didn't catch his name and a lady with short hair and glasses! As we where riding about one day they took the time to talk to my daughter on her bike which really makes a massive deal to me been very child orientated! I really haven't got a bad word to say about the place the park was absolutely amazing again the shower facilities where spotlessly clean smelled fresh Everytime you walked in. Again backing up all the other reviews the site was impeccable I would recommend to family and friends and hopefully we will return again in the future! Just to add for anyone wanting a near by eatery on our last night we took the short drive into Ambleside and had a meal at the Flying Fleece which was very nice and a dog friendly pub too! Thanks again Skelwith Fold staff for a wonderful stay we made some happy memories and shall be back soon!

Well what can I say about this place. It’s beautiful. Really really lovely site. We went early may bank holiday in our tourer We also met up with our friends who also have a tourer. Upon arrival we we drove to the first barrier which displayed our number plate on screen with a welcome message. Then the barrier lifted. The site is very peaceful, full of wildlife, beautiful walks through wooded areas. Bird watching area. The kids were memorised. They saw little mice, lots of birds, deer. The amenities are out of this world, Showers Very clean, heated floors which was amazing. Don’t get me wrong it was a little walk for us to get to the main facilities block as we were in coppice area but we didn’t mind that at all. The play ground for the kids was brilliant plenty to play on and also an enclosed area for them to play with footballs etc. I also loved the fact that you get to choose your own pitch here, our pitch was hard standing we did have a little trouble trying to hammer some of our rock pegs in as the ground was solid. But we did manage with slight adjustments of the peg positions. The staff were all friendly and we saw them multiple times during our 3 night stay doing checks all around site which was great. The roads leading down to site are a little on the narrow side but as long as you take it steady it’s fine. We will 100% be coming back here again we can’t wait. It is defiantly one of the best sites we have ever been to and I would recommend it to anyone.
