Stunning Sunrise at Mam Tor, Peak District I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mam Tor in the Peak District for a sunrise, and it was nothing short of breathtaking. As the first light of the day began to paint the sky with soft pinks and oranges, the views from the summit were absolutely stunning. The rolling hills and valleys of the Peak District unfolded beneath me, with the iconic ridge of Mam Tor itself offering a dramatic vantage point.

The climb up to the top is a relatively easy one, though it’s a bit steep at points. The early morning air was crisp and fresh, and the stillness of the landscape was a perfect setting for reflection. I arrived just before sunrise, and the gradual light revealed more and more of the beautiful surroundings as the minutes passed.

What really made the experience special was the sense of peace and tranquility—there were very few people around, allowing me to fully take in the landscape. The view from the summit is spectacular, with sweeping vistas of the Edale Valley, the distant Kinder Scout, and the charming village of Castleton below.

Mam Tor is also known as the "Shivering Mountain" due to its frequent landslips, adding an intriguing geological aspect to the location. It’s a perfect spot for photography, nature lovers, or anyone wanting a quiet place to reconnect with the beauty of the Peak District.

Overall, watching the sunrise at Mam Tor was a memorable and magical experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area, especially if you’re looking for a peaceful start to your day with a view that’s truly...

A great medium level hike that can be tailored to suit length.

Option A is to park in Castleton village (the main car park is £4 for 4 hours or if you go slightly ahead towards winnats pass, there is a field that charges £4 for all-day parking). Then walk through the winnats pass (this part is very steep!). Then at the top, you can see Mamtor to your right. Walk through the field, (level) across the road to a second field (steep) and you will encounter rock stairs to the summit (medium incline). Time to summit = 1.5 hours

Option B is to go out of Castleton, drive through the the winnats pass and park roadside just below the summit steps. Walk through the field (steep) and your'e at the base of Mamtor. Time to summit = 15 mins

Once at the top you can walk along the ridge for quite a while.

If you do this and then head down one of the right turns downhill towards Castleton, be wary, it is a very narrow path, rubble and stone with a steep descent. You then head to the woods and are presented with 2 options once you reach a private farm. Go right towards the willat the pass and left through some boggy narrow paths towards Castleton village

We took the left route but wished we had taken the right. Feet got wet from a small stream making the marshland boggy.

Overall, a great place and highly...

Slowly coming to the end of my holidays so today was a walk up Mam Tor We parked just down from Hope Train Station which was free The map we used wasn't particularly good from a site we had found the walk on Off we go for our 6.5 mile walk across fields, then slightly off the beaten track as some signs are missing but that didn't stop us I have to say of you are a complete novice with walking this was tough going for me however I have had 4 ankle operations, knee operations and back surgery so for me I found the uneven surface and up hill a bit of a struggle Its rough and uneven in areas so a good pair of walking boots and maybe walking poles to help along the uneven ground. Dogs are welcome on the walks but due to livestock they need to be on lead signs are up across most of the fields however we did see some dogs off lead. Overall the walk was a good 4hrs we some stops for our picnic and some breathing stops for me Overall a nice walk in the country certainly intend to come back i have heard when the sun is shining the views are so much better There is a quarry that you can see in the valley and you will hear a long siren noise before a blast from the...

Windy and beautiful place. Keep your raincoat with you coz umbrellas are not effective in the heavy winds.
