Today was my first time visiting Knepp Castle Estate Walkers' Car Park and grounds, and I wasn't disappointed. I know my furry 4-legged friend loved it as well!!
I arrived just before 8 am, and was pleased to see there were plenty of parking spaces available. However, by the time I left (2 hours later), the car park was filling up! There are no mandatory parking fees, but you can make a donation should you choose.
From the car park, the signs clearly direct you to where the various walking routes begin. There are 4 different routes to choose from: WHITE, YELLOW, RED, and BLUE, all clearly signposted using coloured paint on posts and trees within the grounds. I spent time exploring the yellow and white route today, but I will definitely be back to see where the red and blue route takes me!
There are areas marked where walkers can not venture due to the wildlife that resides in the grounds, but it doesn't restrict the space you get to explore! Nestled in trees, they have built platforms for you to climb up and watch the world go by. There are 6 scattered around the grounds - I managed to find 2! The hunt for the other 4 begins!
I was extremely lucky to see a stork nest, high up in the tree with 4 baby birds - located close to the campsite / farm yard. Further into the grounds, I even saw 2 wild deer! For any keen bird watchers, there are plenty of spots to settle in and watch the various birds fly about as well. In fact, a large coach of bird watchers arrived just as I was leaving!
I'd love to come back to camp in one of their pods or tree house, and maybe even try yoga!
Thankfully, the sunny weather the UK has had the last few days meant most of the paths were dry. However, you can see where you would need to wear appropriate shoes when it has been raining - lots of muddy sections to manoeuvre! The paths are undulating and bumping in places where the wildlife have roamed. There are a few smallish climbs back up to paths as well, so bear all that in mind when venturing out.
Overall, I really loved the tranquillity of the Knepp Castle Estate. Walking and listening to all the birds, seeing wildlife, and just being in nature is soothing to the mind and soul! I will be back! Thank you for opening this space for...
Read moreThis car park is well signposted on the way. You park in the walkers car park and then walk over to the safari car park to make you way to the start of the trails. The cafe is a shack that only serves drinks and biscuits, so don't expect to be able to have lunch there. There are also no toilets at the "cafe". If you do the blue walk there is a pub half way but it does take a few hours to complete that walk. I think there are pubs in the area but not marked on the maps. There is sometimes a volunteer in the carpark handing out maps but if not you can download a map from the website. The walks are well signposted, lots of...
Read moreGreat place for a walk, there are three routes of varying lengths, each are clearly signposted as you navigate the site, plus there are printed maps for sale in the car park and maps dotted about the site, usually at junction points. This really makes it easy to navigate the site. Really great to see this rewilding in action, I was pleased to see several storks on my visit. The hide up by the lake was really good, with posters up to aid with identification. Only issue was signage leading to the car park was a little confusing, I found myself in a field that clearly wasn't the car park and spotted a couple of cars...
