We've been in the tea room three times. The first time it was in summer last year and the experience was great. We ordered tea and enjoyed our time outside in the garden area. Some time later I decided to invite my mother-in-law to the tea room because I remembered how delightful my first experience had been. We ordered coffee and teacake. The coffee was nice but the teacake was dry and didn't look that fresh. Anyway, we had a lovely time, despite the fact the the teacake wasn't nice at all. A couple of weeks ago I invited my mother-in-law to the tea room again to try scones. To our utter disappointment, the scones were cold and as hard as rock. I managed to break mine into pieces and dipped it in my coffee, which made it easier to eat, whereas my mother-in-law struggled to cut it in halves and eventually gave up. We told the staff about the issue – but they weren't responsive, and no one apologised. When my mother-in-law pointed out that the scones were cold – the manager just said that we should've asked them to warm them up (this is strange, because scones are normally served warm). Anyway, they should've at least asked us if we wanted them to be warm before serving them. Once again, we absolutely love the location and the ambience in the tea room, but the quality of the food seems to be getting worse. 3 points out...
Read moreAfter a trip to the dentist we decided to have breakfast at the tearooms opposite. A very quaint cottage on the corner of the crossroads with a large garden with seating. Inside, the quaintness continued with decor. There were 2 rooms on the ground floor either side of the main service room, very warren like. I believe there is also seating upstairs but we didn’t venture. We were greeted by a friendly young lady behind the counter who told us we could sit wherever we wanted, they did have a few tables reserved, but we found a table in the corner. After deciding what we’d like to eat and drink from the menus on the table, I placed our order at the counter and paid. It wasn’t long before our drinks and cutlery was brought to the table, and not long after that did our breakfasts arrive, one full English and one small breakfast. Both well presented, well cooked and tasty. Both breakfasts came with a hot drink included in the price, we also had orange juice and apple juice as well. All of which was very reasonably priced. After we’d finished we couldn’t resist taking a blueberry and elderflower scone with us, one of many cakes and treats they had to offer. Certainly worth a visit again for a...
Read moreI was really excited to visit the tea rooms after a day of visiting the nearby castle. Unfortunately we were left feeling slightly underwhelmed. We had the afternoon tea, a selection of sandwiches and cakes.
We asked to sit in one of the empty side rooms however were asked to move as they wanted to close that area for seating. We didn’t feel comfortable sitting in the other packed room given the current covid situation so decided to sit outside on a rainy afternoon where we struggled to find a clean table and spotted a few rats milling around which didn’t quite set the scene. There were also lots flies in the main serving room.
The scones arrived hard and cold, however when asked to be warmed they were tasty and soft and clearly homemade. The tea arrived in a pot but no accompanying sugar or milk which I found bizarre. The sandwiches were fresh but very expensive for what they were (6.95).
Overall this place has the potential to be fabulous with some more care and attention, particular to hygiene as the surroundings are quaint and picturesque. The food, although overpriced was tasty however more attention could be given...
