This is a cracker of a site in scenic Cumbria. There are around 9 pitches in total in a small camping area with a good family atmosphere. There was a great community play area which kept our daughter 6 and son 3 amused and there was other children for them to play with. Also on site is a lovely swimming pool although we didn't have our bathers with us (we will make sure we remember them for our next visit).
On our first night we were welcomed by site worker and she advised that we were in for a wet night. She wasn't kidding! The heavens opened and we ended up with a small flood in our tent. Theres nothing you can do about the British weather though and luckily the next day was a lot drier enabling us to dry out a little.
The facilities were very good with clean toilets, hot showers and washing up facilities. The village has a co-op only a small walk away for your shopping needs. Penrith is a 10 to 15 minute drive away and has some fantastic scenery, a range of great shops and several pubs.
There was tears from my daughter when we had to leave as she loved it so much and was sad to be leaving her new friends. I would highly recommend this site to anyone with a young family. We look forward to...
Read moreI arrived unbooked at 12.30 today. This was based on the site posting on local FB encouraging people to come and support the pool, no booking needed. It is only open 2-5pm during school holidays (why?) but 8hrs otherwise. I waited 1.5hrs and when the attendant opened, she said it was booked up, by regular session ticket holders. Except most didn’t bother to show up. Myself and at least 6-10 more people were turned away even though only about 20 people had gone through, and some of them were observers. I asked if I could now take a spot, still no, not allowed, not even for 30mins. This was my first chance to support a local pool😕
The committee that manage the pool are turning away money. Why not put a clause in saying to folks with pre-booked slots that, if they are not there within 15mins of their time, the pool reserves the right to allow any people waiting for a swim unbooked to take that slot. Myself and many other disappointed people were dumbfounded at the treatment today, the site saying booking not necessary, and the rationale behind the prebooked rules. I will not be...
Read moreA very cheerful and welcoming pool in a picturesque village. The staff/volunteers in the kiosk/tuck shop were very friendly. There are male/female changing rooms with a warm showers and toilets. No lockers, but there is a sheltered area by the pool where you can leave your belongings. We went on a weekday during term time and opening hours were limited 3.30 to 6pm for a general session. It was £6 per person and we booked online via the website (I can imagine during sunny days the pool gets very busy with the campsite next door). There is limited free parking at the pool entrance. The main pool is 17m long and was around 25° when we visited. There is also a learner pool with traditional fountain ⛲ - fab! Pool is clean, well maintained, and the life guard was watching the chaos of kids and floats as we swam. Definitely one for...
