ELY`S FISH BAR — Local services in Leeds

After driving past many times, and not going in, I decided one evening, after going hiking, to try some chips with salt and vinegar.

The gentleman who served me done so with a smile, and handed me a ‘regular’ portion of chips, this portion could have fed 3 people comfortably. I was very hungry, and ate every last one. This was the single greatest portion of chips I have ever eaten. The proper “chippy chips” golden brown, fresh and perfectly seasoned.

I then followed up with my friends, I had the “giant yetty sausage” with some chips and gravy. The sausage certainly lived up to its name. If I was to imagine the phallus of a Bigfoot, the sausage I received was bigger. Not only was it large, it was perfectly cooked and fried. Elys clearly take pride in this menu item. The chips were just as delicious as last time, and the gravy was ‘proper’ chip shop gravy. The whole thing for less than £10.

Friend no.1 got the same as me and also had no complaints.

Friend no.2 got a fish and chips and it looked great. He wouldn’t let me have some so that’s a good indicator of its great quality.

We decided to go again, but this time switch it up, I opted for a Greek style kebab, I though there’s no way a chip shop like this could pull off a good kebab alongside a great fish and chips menu. I was wrong. This is the greatest kebab I’ve ever witnessed. Huge portion and was £7. It could have fed 4 with leftovers.

My friend got a chicken burger, the man convinced him to have the peri peri grilled version instead, and once the burger was nearly done, the gent behind the counter showed us the masterpiece he had just created. He was clearly proud, and rightly so! What a beautiful burger! My friend rated it a 10/10, and he is not easy to please.

The most recent experience, was last week, me and the boys needed a breakfast to end a brilliant weekend:

Where do I start? This establishment served us up the most beautiful breakfast we had ever shared.

I got a cheese and tomato omelette, it was so beautifully crafted with a perfect amount of cheese and seasoning I didn’t need to add any salt, it was so unbelievably delicious. It was perfectly cooked and not overdone, how can an omelette be so juicy and succulent? Only Elys can answer that.

I also got a breakfast wrap with hash browns. No words can describe it. (In a good way) the only problem I had was that he used good quality cheese for the wrap, when I probably would prefer the American plastic cheese with this type of meal. Although I believe if I ask for it next time he would be more than happy to swap that type of cheese for my preferred option.

My friend got a sausage over cheesy toastie, and it was unbelievable, I may have to try it, as my friend swatted my hand away when I tried to have some.

My other friend got a cheese and beans jacket potato, and it was better looking than spudman or spudbros. Also at a better price.

Elys has a 5* hygiene rating and you can see why, the shop is spotless and when you peer behind the counter into the back you can see their cleanliness is something they are proud of.

Their oil is clean and fresh as they never have the stale used oil smell, it’s always fresh.

It used to be really good a couple of years ago. idk what happened. I've ordered twice since new owners. I can't complain when we have been, everyone is super sweet (some Hungarian I believe guy) but the food.... the batter has been questionable. I got a curry sauce the first time and there was a hair. I assumed it was just a one off thats why i gave it another go and it was crap then thats why im leaving this review. I really think this place needs to concentrate on a cuisine and make that good instead of making loads of stuff and it being meh at best. This is my local place, and I really want it to work. I just find myself going further out just not to go here anymore. Edit: no its a real review and you are a buisness im being totally resonable and you are acting like a little butthurt kid who cant control their emotions. It actually quite sad... Edit 2: You claim not to give importance to my review yet you clearly do. Lol!! Edit 3: yes i did review that place beacuse it is good i always try to give out 5 stars when i can i dont know why you are going through my profile... bit creepy. Im not a enemy if you read my review i gave constructive feed back and i litterally said I want this place to work. There was a hair in my food ( and yes i can upload a pic if you so wish ) and most people wouldnt try again but I did! Please i beg you take a look in the mirror and fix whatever if making you so angry and paranoid...

Where do I even start, this is by far the best “chippy” I have ever had, that’s where. I put chippy in quotes as Ely’s has expanded what that word means, the menu has pretty much everything u could ever want so there is really no need to go anywhere else. The whole menu is cooked fresh and is some of the nicest food I have eaten.

If u can’t make it there or are just feeling a little lazy then they do also deliver, however u would be missing out on meeting the owners who are some of the loveliest people and really add the the whole experience.

I have been to Elys a number of times and have never had a sub-excellent meal. The consistency throughout the menu is incredible, everything on there is just as good as the next. Even the fudge cake and brand new slushies are brilliant and I would higher recommend.

There is really not a bad thing to say about Ely’s. I promise once you come here once you won’t want to go anywhere else
