Mount Caburn is an isolated part of the South Downs between Lewes and Glynde. It stands on a vertical chalk escarpment over the Ouse (steep ascent up the narrow lane to the golf club!), consists of open, rolling chalk grassland and offers a great view over the Ouse valley and the surrounding South Downs from the hill fort at its highest point facing south. A walk over it, which can be continued on to the hills south of Glynde if you wish to walk further, is much recommended on a nice summer's day. The chalk grassland, and the nature reserve in particular, contains many characteristic species of wildflower, including the spotted, pyramidal and fragrant orchids.

Lovely walks and views over the rolling hills. Glynde Village is a great start and end point with a car park and toilets, as well as a post office and cafe. The kind of place you could explore throughout the seasons and soak it up. Quite a climb up to the top and through the steep sided dry valley the other side!

Amazing place for hiking and sightseeing. Highest peak in Southdowns, located near Lewes. Very surreal environment. Park near glynde village and walk up hill. Its about 2 miles uphill hike. Beat place to take pictures from the top. Must visit place.

It is one of the steepest mountains to hike to in England but it is also one of the most popular tourist destinations for hikers and paragliders.

The views from the top of the Mount Caburn where the old Iron Age Fort spot is very stunning especially on a clear sunny day especially if it gets warm.

I managed to hike all the way up to the top from the bottom of the steep hill near Lewes but it is easy to get to from the golf course however you do have to be careful whilst walking past the cows and the sheep if you see them along the way where the gates are.

Overall it is a nice spot to go to and a good spot to go paragliding if youโ€™re into that as well as for all hikers out there.

It is definitely worth checking this mountain out even if you live close to Lewes, Glyde, Brighton, Uckfield, Newhaven etc.

Highly recommended this place to anyone whoโ€™s never been there before and Iโ€™m giving this 5 stars and a solid 10 out of 10....
