I know it’s a bit late for my review, but we’re visiting the LD this week so I thought I’d look up this place. I was invited to attend a 3 week course, as a member of the Air Cadets in 1981. I was a little young, 15 - I think the course was really of 16-20 year olds - apprentices and the like. But coming from a disadvantaged background, some how, someone allowed me to attend. It has shaped my life to this day. It was brilliant. I had been away from home before with cadets so no home sickness to worry about. From that 1st evening, team building, to caving, the expeditions including the final 4 day one, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain rescue training. (Even the run around the grounds and jump in the lake) it was April so cold and wet at times but I learned so much about life, myself, working with strangers. I was the only one in knew on the course when I arrived, we had lads from all walks of life, students apprentices, blokes with jobs. The care and amenities were excellent. The food was… adequate. The instructors were fantastic. Sorry it’s late but not sure how many reviews you get that can look back...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the recent school camp trip for disabled children. We were very excited about this experience, but unfortunately, the staff were not accommodating or understanding of their disabilities, despite their role in working with children. Instead of supporting them, they failed to listen to their needs and dismissed their distress. As a result, they kicked 3 children out of the camp, even though they were struggling and needed care.
While my child did do wrong too, This treatment is still unacceptable. I paid £400 for my child to attend, and they were removed from the camp without even being there for the full day. There could be parents struggling for money and medication too, so this refund is really important. Given these circumstances, I am requesting a full refund of the money spent. I expect the staff to take responsibility for their lack of support and ensure better care for disabled children...
Read moreOur college has just competed the 5 day base camp course and have taken away so much, learning both essential teamwork skills and how to apply everything we have learned to day to day life. We have had an excellent time which was enhanced by the presence of Alex who was an absolute gem, and made everything infinitely better, particularly with his sense of humour which kept us motivated throughout the week. He also kept us well informed with what we needed to do and when, ensuring we were well equipped for the duration of our stay.
Moreover, on the Thursday we met Stan who took us on the best experience of the week in which we climbed a waterfall. We will undoubtedly treasure these memories forever as he is an absolute queen and brightened our moods consistently. We also hope he has a sublime 24th birthday today.
All in all, we had a brilliant time and would recommend to anyone and can guarantee a 10/10 experience, especially if led by Alex and Stan.
Love...
