The short version: I wouldn't say don't go here for a roast, but there are several other local venues I'd recommend above this place. The staff were pleasant enough, though initially slow to greet us.

The long version...

The first thing I should say is that we were stood by the sign that said "please wait here to be seated" for about 5 minutes, which wasn't great considering the place was very quiet. When we were greeted and led to the table, the gentleman spent so long telling us the rules for ordering and about the "deal", that it led one member of our party to comment that we should have recorded him so that we didn't forget what he'd said.

Ordering was quite complicated because unlike most pubs and restaurants you can't start a tab, which made splitting the bill harder than it should have been. We also had to order dessert at the same time as the roasts to secure a "deal" of £1 off, which is just odd. The lady at the till was great and kept apologising because lots of the order she had to manually type, and the till system itself was just plain slow.

When the food was delivered, every roast was drenched in gravy rather than the gravy being on the side, meaning the potatoes in particular were very soggy rather than crispy, like a good roasty should be. I personally had the beef, some of which was a little crispy around the edges; I'd suggest the meat was pre-sliced and kept warm under a light, hence why it is drenched in gravy to revive it.

Disappointingly the beef doesn't come with stuffing and the pork doesn't come with a Yorkshire pudding. The sides were cauliflower cheese and mixed greens, which are both perfectly acceptable but in short supply. We were also supposed to get horseradish and apple sauce but had to ask, then we had to ask for more when we were bought 1 ramekin of each for 12 of us.

One final thing to note is that a hair was found in the cauliflower cheese. Luckily it was spotted early and that small part was put aside, and the rest was fine. I don't think it's indicative of poor hygiene practices, just unfortunate, though perhaps going forward the male kitchen staff could wear beard nets.

For the desert, I personally had the cheese board, which was nice but maybe a little slow. I'm told the crumble and sticky toffee pudding was nice, but those that had the black forest gateau sundae said it was a bit disappointing. Apparently the brownie pieces were bitter and dry (likely they were the cut offs from a tray of brownies), and it was quite small, with just one scoop of ice cream.

So overall I'd say that if someone offered me a roast from here, I wouldn't turn it away, but truthfully I probably wouldn't choose to come...

I visited this place quite a while back when my eldest(now 18) was young. It was in its previous location and I was not blown away by it and have not revisited since until today. I visited today with my youngest daughter (12) who is home educated, after she had expressed an interest in bees. Ourselves and a couple had missed the honey tasting. The lady who was doing the tours(sorry didn’t catch her name) kindly did a mini one for us, which we really appreciated! I can honestly tell you I was shocked at how much this place has improved. It was absolutely fascinating. The lady who did the tours was fantastic, really engaging and very informative. Unfortunately as my daughter has ADHD she often can’t concentrate for very long so we missed the garden talk and had a walk around. At the next part of the tour my daughter chose a radish to plant, she then told me that she had chosen this because she had heard the lady say it sprouted the fastest! So this lady really captured her attention which was brilliant as on the way home she continued to mention things she had said. The indoor play area , toilets and rest of the place were very clean and tidy. Myself and my daughter had a warm drink in the play area and the staff were really lovely. Unfortunately we had already eaten so we did not go in the restaurant but plan to revisit and have lunch there soon. The lady’s on reception and all staff we met along the way were really kind and welcoming. My daughter is very proud of her beeswax candle and she couldn’t wait to show the rest of the family. We’re going to use all of the information we collected to create our project on bees for this term so thank you very much for a lovely very educational afternoon....

We had a wonderful and unexpected day at Quince Farm today. We arrived on holiday early and couldn't check in to our holiday cottage until much later and our 10 year old son had been disappointed a few days earlier at missing a bee keeping talking talk at a National Trust site, so when we saw Quince Honey Farm nearby we booked it in a heartbeat. We thought we'd spend a couple of hours here and kill a bit of time but it turned into a day of wonderful and educational talks, experiences and demos. The beekeeping demo, candle rolling workshop, critter meet and the honey tasting were highlights, but everything here is just so beautiful and well presented that just being here was a delight. The kids loved both indoor and outdoor play areas too and the cafe food was amazing. The Quince honey latte was a particular treat worth trying (and cheaper than a coffee with added syrup, but much nicer!) We had our dog with us too who also had a lovely day and was welcomed everywhere which is always nice to see as a dog owner. I would note that most of the other dogs we met there were not so friendly though but that's not the fault of Quince Honey Farm. Oh, and a special mention to Fi who ran the critter meet, beekeeping and honey tasting sessions - she was an amazing presenter, very engaging and child friendly and also bursting with enthusiasm and knowledge - the perfect host! :-)

And you can't leave without some of their delicious honey too! The heather honey is delicious and the Lemon honey is fantastic and unusual. So many to try and love though. Oh and mead and honey rum too! Try some samples and you won't want to leave empty handed!

We'll certainly be recommending Quince Honey Farm to our...

I’m not too sure where to start! What a gem of a place to visit. Large carpark(for pot holes as you drive in & out) but plenty of room and clean. There was a lovely lady on the desk who was very polite and took the time to explain the whole set up and what we could do there. We paid £32 for two adults so we could go to the different talks/experiences. Started in the café with a fantastic coffee and tea cake - it was rammed full of locals & visitors but the service was quick and again all were super nice. We did the honey factory/tasting, candle making, bugs & bee keeping demo. All of which were hosted by a lady called Saki - to say she was brilliant would be an understatement. So much knowledge and passion which came across with real warmth. Her presentations were engaging and she really included everyone and we were able to ask lots of questions. We both learnt so much and the demonstrations were fantastic - especially the bugs and watching the bees in the hive. I’m personally terrified of bees but everything is set up so you can get close without any risk - really well done. The gardens are also stunning and very relaxing to walk around. There looked like there was a huge play area for children so a great visit for couples or families. The shop is also really well priced and has a huge selection to choose from. Another bonus is the centre is dog friendly in all areas including the demo areas. Even though one of our bulldogs started snoring through one of the talks they had a great time too. Rain or shine it is certainly worth a visit & thank you all for such a great day.

Just a quick visit today for a few hours. There is so much to see and do. Activities for people of all ages and interests. Plenty of specialist honey for sale and we couldn't resist the heather honeycomb. The cafe was a real treat. Will be back again soon for sure!

We had an excellent day today at Quince Honey Farm. We got there just on time for the tour as we checked the time. Starting off with honey tasting which were delicious and then moving onto candle making which I remember doing when I was a child. To be able to do that with my daughter was great. Loved being able to keep the candle also. We took a tour of the hex garden and had a really interesting guide. He was very informative and was great. There was a part about a seeds but we had to have lunch, daughters needs, but honestly was great. We enjoyed the soft play area, we spent about a hour just there and had lots of fun. We found the toilets clean and the whole facility looked well taken care of. They are building additional sections to the farm and can't wait to go back and see what they have done. The shop had lots to offer, though I didn't buy anything, the wife got a candle and a candle making kit. We were lucky for great weather but even so there is a lot indoors. We loved that the whole farm was centered around bees and actually built to suit them. I have seen complaints about "weeds" and the replies and I agree with the farm, the whole point is to be a honey farm, not a flower garden and it pictures greatly what bees like. So it was a bit of food for thought when back home and wanting to accommodate bees into our garden. There were great play areas outside which we were able to enjoy and had a lovely time. We definitely will be going again and highly recommend.
