Good novice walk with amazing views once you reach the top. You can see right out to Liverpool, The Wirral and North Wales from the top. You can drive 80% of the way up if you so wish but, why would you? There are multiple routes to the top with great views and landscapes to peak your interest. There's also a great history to Winter Hill which is well worth a Google and read before you head off. Whilst this is a relatively easy walk it's worth noting that there are some routes up that will be tricky at times and as always weather can amplify the the difficulty of any walk something that is worth noting that whatever route you take. The hardest part of this picturesque walk is the last 100ft so be prepared if you're not used to steep inclines. It's well worth the effort once you get there though. From the amazing panoramic views to the monuments and castles that adorn the summit. So bring your best camera you won't regret it. The views of the night sky are incredible but, light pollution from surrounding towns and city's will hinder your photography accordingly. For those interested in astrophotography there is only one place in reasonable proximity you should visit and...

Have only taken a bike up there once and it was under duress.. as payment in kind for a mate who'd rescued me from sunstroke and a car breakdown on the A56 the day prior.

He insisted that in return I had to go for a bike ride after work.. he innocently pointed at the communications tower and explained it wasn't far.. (that deception was very similar to the cows in Father Ted). He also told me there was a cafe at the top.. THERE IS NO SUCH EATERY..

I fell off a small cliff while off-roading some of the descent.. reverting to a juvenile state, I think my breakdown was complete 😁

I really want a cup of tea and a...

What a wild and wonderful place to visit. Not too far to travel from Merseyside and the journey is well worth it. If you like wind swept and desolate with stunning views then this is the place for you. It's the highest point in the West Pennines and towers above the Rivington area. The mast on top helps serve television transmission in most of Lancashire and the surrounding areas. Make sure you wear study shoes or boots and warm clothing to make the most of...

Great walk up Winter hill, specially on a warm day. Take cold drink or water with you, so you don't get dehydrated. Well worth the walk, you can rest at the top. You can walk down through the style coming down, it's a good hour back to the car park, unless you go back on your self. Its a leg stretcher, and will keep you fit.

Glorious hike round the Winter Hill and Rivington Pike circuit. Snow made it a little marshy in areas where the ground had thawed but no trouble in walking boots. Fab views in all directions and very quiet!

Freezing cold and quiet with stunning views. In the distance you can see Snowdonia and Liverpool docks to one side, the Peak District on the other and Manchester City centre in between.
