Nice summit to reach. There are various ways to get there however the easiest is from Dovestone Reservoir. It is a moderately steep walk, mainly tarmac so you can ride a bicycle up to the top other than having to negotiate a couple of gates that would require you to carry your bike along. To ride up there, you would have to be fit though. In the winter, the weather can quickly change up there so be prepared. Pavements can be icy and dicey so good outdoor footwear and clothing would be necessary. Great place to visit anytime of the year.

This is a good hike. I parked at Dovestone Reservoir then started my hike from there. It is nearly all up hill and will give your lungs a good clear out. It says it's 1.5 miles to the summit, but believe me, it feels twice that. Rather than going up and down the same route, there is a path that branches off from the main route. You will see this on your right as you ascend up. I will be doing this again but with my walking app. This is just to see if it is 1.5 miles up.

I came up from Dovestones Reservoir heading towards Featherbed Moss, the unclear path was very wet and muddy here all the way to Featherbed Moss. The reservoir itself is just a smaller reservoir with nothing spectacular, just a midpoint if you are doing Dovestones/Alphin Pike circular.

The purpose of Chew Reservoir was to supply the compensation water for the Greenfield and Chew Valley rivers which was required under a government Act in the 1870s. This would leave a better (cleaner) supply from the Yeoman Hey and Greenfield reservoirs to be used directly into the main drinking...
