Orkney — Local services in Scotland

Almost the most northern part of uk!! If not for the wind, one can easily cycle around the island as it is relatively flat, with hardly any trees due to the wind! The island is inhibited by many seabirds, including the cute puffins which live in certain part! To me, it is their colourful beaks that attract my attention. They are tiny birds of maybe 6 inches in my estimate. The island is well own for the Neolithic archeological finds! I am glad I made the last minute swap from the hot Madrid 37 degrees to the winter like Orkney Islands of 13 degrees end of June 2023! Another interesting discovery are the sheep in North Ronaldsay, north of Orkney that feed entirely on seaweed!! Kleiner Info- Point, Bushaltestelle, nette Menschen im größeren Info-Point mit Souvenir Shop helfen bei der ersten Orientierung im kleinen, schottischen Stätdchen. Angekommen in der Innenstadt liegt rechter Hand die St. Magnus Kathedrale, dann folgen Earls Palace (Ruinen), eine alte Schule, typische Wohnhäuser und ca. 2 km weiter, ansteigenden Weges gelangt man zur Highland Park Whisky Destille. Dort trifft (und auch auf dem Weg dahin) trafen wir auf hilfsbereite, freundliche Menschen die gerne Dinge zeigten und erklärten. Wenn man nur am guten Whisky interessiert ist, den findet man auch - wieder unten im Städchen angelangt- im Highland Park Whisky Shop, sowie noch einige andere kleine Lädchen in denen man diverse Andenken kaufen kann. Mit dem Bus haben wir dann noch eine Tour gemacht. Stromness, Scapa Flow, Ring von Brodgar standen auf dem Programm.
