While the building itself is impressive the rest just really isn't. The driveway up to it is a good indicator of the experience to come. Riddled with potholes. We arrived to check in at 1:59pm and were told our room wasn't ready yet and were reminded that check in was from 2pm... We had to wait about 25 mins and then ask again and were told it was ready. We had booked using a Buyagift voucher and just trying to book using that had been a chore. It took about 5 days to get any sense out of anyone there to get something booked. We were in the Old Stable Courtyard and I guess when you use the Buyagift voucher you don't get nice rooms. Even the way to our room was foreboding. The walls were scuffed and paint peeling and dark red marks that looked like some sort of stabbing had occured. I knew our bed was a twin pushed together but there was no bedside table on one side and when you sat on the bed it pushed back and flicked light switches that were behind the headboards. None of the furniture matched and there were water marks on the ceiling. The walls were scuffed, the bathroom was tired with the shower looking pretty grotty and the sink top coming away from the tiles. The bathroom door stuck and wouldn't close properly. We booked a table for dinner and were seated and our food order taken. We weren't given a wine list but decided not to bother asking and just have water. We waited for almost an hour for our starters. The head waiter kept checking on us and kept being mortified we hadn't got our starters yet. We had one crusty roll each (so crusty they might just turn to dust when you cut them open) with stone cold butter so the rolls were further annihilated putting that on. The food was nice though. Our main courses came without a delay, although the young lad who brought our food out could do with some waiting lessons. He kept assuming who was having what and thrusting a plate at me "Melon?" and me saying no. He would sort of plonk the plate down. No smiles, no "enjoy your meal". Didn't also warn about the plates being hotter than the surface of the sun. We asked for the bill and sat waiting for about 15 mins before getting up to ask again for it. We were given it without a pen to write our room number and sign so got up to leave and asked for the pen on the way out. We had a look in the library which is essentially a collection of books donated by people (the place Readers Digest books go to die) and there was a random bar stuck in the corner that looked a mess with empty bottles on the floor behind it and someone's random plate of food on the side. We went back to our room and enjoyed the sounds of other guests in their rooms. The next morning we went for breakfast. I was confused as the information pack said that breakfast was served in the rooms we had our dinner the night before yet when we went into the main building we were told it was down in the Terrace Restaurant which was down a maze of corridors. The breakfast was ok. A self service buffet with anaemic sausages. We decided we didn't want to stay for the second night and packed up and checked out. I was expecting the receptionist to pick up on the fact that we were checking out a day early but not a flicker. No final copy of our bill etc. I had been prepared to explain why we were leaving had they asked. It is such a shame, this is supposed to be one of Best Westerns better properties but it is lack lustre and in need of a good lick of paint. I don't know if the rooms in the main building are better. I would have given it 2 stars but the food was nice so it got upped to 3. The service just could have been so much better. The restaurant wasn't that busy. I have worked in busier restaurants and it isn't hard to keep on top of simple things. The staff apart from the head waiter just mostly seemed to not be that bothered. It has been a disappointing stay as the Buyagift voucher was a Christmas present and we had been looking forward to our stay. Definitely wouldn't book again unless they had a...
Read moreToday we travelled to Stoke Rochford Hall for Afternoon tea. The driveway was alittle tierd never the less the building and the grounds were so very beautiful. The building is a positive backdrop for many a photo. The interior of the building was sadly a real disappointment, it really is in need of some much love and refurbishment, it is in much desperate need of a thorough deep clean, we were so very shocked and very disappointed. However we tried to remain postive. On arrival we spoke with the receptionist who was just OK in mannerisms, it felt as if we bored her in asking about the reservations we had. We left feeling some what dissatisfied and still was none th wiser to where we were to go, or where we could have a drink until the Afternoon tea was scheduled, we then wondered around the building, there was no apparent staff any where so when we wanted to know about our Afternoon tea we were greeted with a sigh and a grunt from a waitress who was bringing the food serving down from a lift at least 1 and half hours before, the Afternoon tea was to be served not covered either. The young waitress mumbled something I believe to be wait in the main hall which we presumed was the grand entrance!! Although may I add the reception area is in a very strange place within the building, very confusing, when you do find the very unacceptable door and extremely unstable stage stairs, you feel as if your going into the side entrance, nothing to make if even look attractive. You have a main entrance to Stoke Rochford Hall, although in need of some love is your MAIN focus. Why do you not use that as your first IMPRESSION Counts for so much, your staff which was almost ghost like were not uniformed smartly had no badges to express that they were staff, and the ones that were there did not know how to make you feel welcome. Customer service is at the top of my list!!! People treat themselves to an experience and may of saved money, taken time off just to have a few hours of happiness indulgence in a relaxed atmosphere. This certainly was none of the above. Our booking was for 1230 yet confused as to where we were to go, and when we finally asked another couple if that was the correct place to sit, they said yes.. There was no one there to help us nor assist to our needs either.. We went into the room where the Afternoon tea was ment to be, the room was filthy, there was food on the walls the carpets hadn't been hoovered for a while and the tables were dirty, the atmosphere was so tense we decided to move out into the grand Hall just so we could try to actually have some form of a postive vibe, and enjoy the afternoon tea booked for 1230 we were left just sitting about not knowing if we were being looked after. The service was a complete shambles, 45 minutes after our booking time we were given a slate with our food on, we were not told what was on the plate most Afternoon tea services the waitress will introduce herself and present the food with enthusiasm and explain what you would be eating,, the bread ai asked for I think was gluten free although I have never seen a blue tinted stale gluten free bread as fresh, it was an absolute car crash, there were no staff that we could really find and no manager to express our feelings with, we didn't want to be negative we just wanted to feel that our money and experience was leaving us filled with delightful memories. There were glasses left from days ago mouldy cereal bowls left clutter and carnage everywhere, the manager really needs to take stock of this beautiful building and give it the justice it truly needs. I would love to mange this building and actually give the staff a lesson in Customer service looking smart and identifying them so customers can feel confident in approaching them, the place needs a deep clean and I have a cleaning business and would welcome training your cleaners in this. I also believe if you do not bring this place upto standard it will fall...
Read moreI really don't know where to start with this review. Trying to get hold of the hotel, i rang them 5 times during the day, to confirm my booking and explain to them that i will be arriving late. No answer. We finally arrived at the hotel after a 3hour journey, driving up the road to this amazing looking building. Walk through the door and the decor is very dated. On arrival walking to the reception desk there was a couple standing leaving after only been there for about 30mins (alarm bells should have started ringing) Got the key, was warned that the lift was slow, waited nearly 10 min for the lift to arrive to the ground floor (think it may have been run by little rodents with how slow it was). Finally got to the room to walk through the door, stains on the carpet, first thing we saw was all the lamp shade lopsided. None of them sat still. We was looking forward to a bath in our room (what was stated on the website, for the room we had reserved) to find a shower, which had half a door and a shower curtain that had mould on the bottom of it. Took nearly an hour for the water to warm up in the shower after my partner had turned the radiator off then on again. Was looking at the pug sockets at the back of the bedside table, so i could put my phone charger in, but i was welcomed with dirty tissues and hair behind it. My partner went to make me a cup of tea, only to find used milk cartons, used coffee sachets and train tickets in the draw of the tea box. Came to the morning of leaving, hoping for a bit of a lay-in before checking out, we was rudely awoken by drilling coming from the room next door. My partner firstly went down to the reception to ask why this was happening, asked to speak to the manager and the gentleman on the front desk just said no, so my partner then asked for a number or email for the manager which was given. The people that stayed next to us had locked themselves out of the room the night before, this happened around 5pm surely a locksmith would have been called that night if they was leaving early. Not at 7am on a sunday morning. At the reception desk i asked to speak with the manager for the guy on the desk to say that he was and processed to tell me that he spoke to my 'boyfriend , husband or what ever he was' and that my partner was lying to me about the conversation they had about the locksmith. We then asked to speak to the deputy manager, which the receptionist went to look for to come back 20min later to tell me that this certain person had all of a sudden gone out to buy stuff for the hotel. Please if your thinking of staying here read the reviews before you go. Such a...
