As a group of 6 guys we have always enjoyed coming here to play the fantastic golf course and excellent accommodation. Most of the staff are very friendly (especially reception and the pro shop), however one or 2 let the place down as do a couple of the archaic "rules".
Let me explain: When I asked for a for a table in the empty restaurant for the 6 of us I was told, loudly & abruptly "no!" Realizing he may have been a little rude, the guy then proceeded to say they were full - too late, the damage had been done and we spent our money elsewhere. Staff in the bar area clear the glasses away but won't do table service and won't take food orders - you have to queue at the bar. Bizarrely, hot food can only be eaten in the restaurant or outside but not in the bar area. So sandwiches are ok but fish & chips not!
Having learnt our lesson on the first day we chose to have dinner in Padstow on the 2nd night. On our return at 9:45pm we wanted to have a drink or 2 in the bar. We were very quickly told by the barman that we couldn't stay in the bar area as one of the guys was wearing flip flops! In the middle of summer. By the sea. Who'd have thought?! You are in the service industry and these 1950's attitudes and rules don't cut it in the modern world.
I've never written a review before but feel I have to make you aware of our groups dissatisfaction. You can choose to use this positively or just ignore it - it's up to you.
All told we spent in the region of £1,500 for our weekend away and these experiences soured our weekend. A few more smiles and a can do attitude would go a long way as your facilities are...
Read moreOverall pretty good! The located is very good with the beech only being a 10 minute walk away. The first tee on the championahip course is only 50 yards away from the apartments. The veiws are very good. There are is also a very good little traditional cornish shop 150 yards away. Very dog freindly lots of dogs on the beech and on resort and you can take them on the golf course. The food is excellent. The food in the main evening resstrant was very nice and so was the culd house lunch menu and very freindly service. The championship course is in very good condition but very hard on windy days. The short course is very good for young kids and new players but it was very busy at times. The headland course is very good not quite as hard or as busy as the championship course. The accommodation was good. Very spacious with large bedroom. However there were a couple of small issues that we found: we found that the pillows were hard and slightly uncomftable. (I found the matrres a little hard) could do with some lager glasses and some kitchen roll (there are no beer or larger wine glass) however apart from those the kitchen was well equipped.
There are some coivd 19 thing in place like hand sanatizer and some keep two meter signs l. They also said that they were doing some extra cleaning. Overall they seem to have followed the guidelines. We had a...
Read moreThis is not placed un the UK top 100 without good reason. Exelent condition course with stunning views to boot. The club house, Pro shop and locker rooms are all high quality even the courtyard is a spotless. The course itself is excellent, definitely my favourite Cornish links of the half dozen I have played so far. On a relatively calm day the course requires thoughtful play with bunkers everywhere and fast multi-tiered greens ready to ruin your score. But on a windy day I should think it would easily frustrate the average golfer. Finally I have to mention the driving range which unfortunately is not up to the standard of the rest of the venue. There are no distance markers on yhe range and no rubber tees on the mats so you must use your own.. which if they spring forward after a short you must say good bye to or risk entering the line of fire to retrieve them. Also the range is about 400 yards down the raod and downhill from the 1st tee so be sure to leave time to get back and recover if you are warming up! Fairly pricy at £85...
