The Carnglaze Caverns are simply beautiful. Once man-made caverns for a slate mine, the site is now used as a venue for all sorts of events from weddings to music concerts. This is a self-walk tour and you have as much time to walk around as you want. You start at the cavern gift shop where you are given a safety talk and general advice about what to expect inside the caverns. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and do make the safety talk as fun as they can. Each visitor is provided with a safety hat, and you're left to wander off toward the caves, which are only a minute or so away. Once inside the cave, you enter the main venue area, which includes a bar, seating area, and plenty of room for chairs to be put out, depending on the event. There is a stage at the very back of this part of the cave, and it generally has a really cool vibe to it all, with colour lighting etc. I imagine weddings, music concerts and other events are quite something here. There is a gentle slope down to another part of the cave, which is where I gasped (and I heard pretty much every single person do the same thing), as I said "Oh wow!" - you enter a HUGE area of the cave which is much lower and deeper than the area you walk down to from the slope. It's hard to put into words how amazing the view is. There's stairs and handrails that lead you down to this area, but you'll need to watch your footing as the steps are not evenly sized. Once at the bottom, there's just so much to look at. There are lots of information boards put throughout the caverns detailing how the miner's conditions were etc. when they were there, which are all an interesting read. There's two flooded areas of the cave which are lit nicely and are good photo points. All in all, the caverns are beautiful. I would say, if you stop to read the information boards, generally appreciate the sheer size of the caverns, and take various photos as I did, you'll be in there for around 45 minutes. Once out, you're advised to return your hard hard to the gift shop, collect a free colourful ribbon, and to head off to the fairy / pixie garden to tie your ribbon somewhere for tradition. This is a lovely little extra and the garden area is really sweet. There's lots of little walkways you can take, but do be warned that there's also a lot of different levels, so you will encounter steps. There's also a woodland walk you can do, but I didn't have time to do this unfortunately. The garden area took me about 15 minutes I suppose before returning to my car (car park on-site). Definitely recommend. Cheap and very interesting activity. This is also just down the road from the Trago Mills shopping centre, for location perspective.

Set in some beautiful wooded countryside, stands carnglaze caverns. As we arrived, a parking attendant came up to us and said it was busy and the car park was full but offered us an alternative space ,which I thought was very helpful. We got to the ticket office and was served by a lovely lady. She said we would have to wait half an hour ,but suggested that we go for a walk in the woods and around the gardens as this would take about 20 minutes. They have a constructed path around the property with a trail that has dragons and fairies strewn around to give a magical feel. The day we went,it was raining ,so the path was muddy and slippery,so getting up some of the slopes was a bit perilous. It was a nice walk but none of the wild flowers were out which would have made it very beautiful. When we got back from our walk we were told that we were ready to go into the caves. Another lovely lady ( the owner) took me and my family under a gazebo, as it was still raining, and gave us a brief talk about the caves and safety points to consider when inside. We were given a map, a torch and all had to wear a hard hat. When we got inside ,the temperature dropped to 10 degrees which was nice as it was quite warm outside and was nice to cool down. We climbing down a flight of steps, (not wheelchair friendly ) and explored around. The caves were split into 3 caverns, all had signs explaining different information about the cavern we were in. One cavern has been turned into a facility for holding a function such as a wedding ,as there is an altar, stage with seating.it also boasts a bar area. Personally, I think the caves could have been more atmospherically lit to give it my drama and bring out the rocks more. It is a beautiful place to visit but you will only be in there for about 20/30mins maximum. There is a tented area in the grounds with shop, vending facilities and eating areas.

We were greeted by the owner Lisa upon arrival, which was lovely Her son was working in the shop, and her husband was doing some groundwork. A beautifully family-run local business and tourist attraction The caverns and grounds are amazing, with good access to the cavern which also hosts gigs and private venues. Stage area with seating and a bar for such events. Amazing acoustics!! A superb history of local and Cornish mining, giving a good insight into the minerals mined in the area and Cornwall The lower cavern and pools are not accessible if mobility is a challenge. But does have a platform so you can see the huge cave which was mined for slate Also home to bats!! But don't worry as you're not of interest to them!! Good information as we walked around, and a mild temperature. Is it underground and some areas are quite low, a hard hat is provided and an advisory talk beforehand Then we went for a walk around the woodland area, higher parts and not suitable for limited mobility as quite steep in places Lower walks are also beautiful, the area is full of mystery...dragons and faeries. And children can look for huberts hut!! A magical mystical walk with faeries and dragons to see hiding in the woodland. Very tranquil setting There is a lovely picnic and seating area, but due to parking spaces at the moment. In the summer, I'd suggest limiting your picnic time to no more than an hour!! Best to book in advance at peak times, but we went off-season and it was fine The shop sells a mixture of lovely crystals, fossils, trinkets and cards. And does sell coffee from a small machine, but no food It's worth looking online for ticket prices, events and live concerts!!
