Stunning picture-perfect reservior surrounded by high peaks, trails, woodland and wildlife. At the foot of the Brecon Beacons, so if you don't fancy the big climbs, there are some flat walking and biking trails around the reservoir. The little village of Talybont is 5 minutes drive with bakery, cafe, 2 pubs and all amenities including the village hall which has toilets and showers for £1. There is also a bike hire shop with trails heading back around reservoir.
Really inviting place. Perfect for a stop off and relax on the shore of the lake. Very quiet road, so not much noise. Several parking places each end and one in the middle along main road. Surrounded by a few farms and plenty of sheep.

There is a hide on the east shore for bird watching. You would never believe you are so close to the former industrial town of Merthyr Tydfil as the surroundings are more reminiscent of an alpine region in Europe. There are no bins at the reservoir so you need to take your litter home (and not dump it in the lay by as some thoughtless idiots do). BBNP Wardens regularly patrol the area to ensure it is kept safe and clean for everyone...
