18.08.2018.The walk started in Freshwater and the grassy slope will stretch your calf muscles.Loads of space and the climb will be a long one.At the first seat turn around and enjoy the view. The cows in the field ahead of you are friendly, even the one's with calves. When you see the cross on the hill up ahead you will realise it's actually quite a long wslk but so worth it for the views. After the memorial the walk takes you into scrubland and a slightly wooded area. The cows live here. The rabbits too. There are barrows, not the type you push but ancient grave sites. They're the shallow bumps in the ground that don't really belong there. After a while you will see the antenna on the hill.I will leave you now take the last climb to the Needles. You'll be pleased to know there's a bus stop at the new battery.Enjoy the views on the downs, and the lack of people.Have fun.The last time i walked here was when i hiked around the island in my teens. It's a long walk all the way around the coastline...I did this walk on my 61st birthday today. Not quite as far as the first time but still very nice...Enjoy your walk.Walking from Freshwater might be the more strenuous option.Uphill...

Obtained a blue badge permit from IOW Council and travelled the trail by 4x4. Joined the trail at the start in Carisbrooke and travelled as far as we could through to Freshwater Bay. The views of the island from a different angle were fantastic and stopped for a picnic across the trail at one of the many benches. Enjoyed it so much we travelled the trail in reverse to get back. 4 1/2 hours return journey with a great cuppa from the lifeboat shop in Freshwater. Well worth getting the permit so people with walking difficulties can...

We visited this place 22 years ago and despite the less green and more brown colours this year one of my favorite places. We walked up there from Highdown Inn and saw many butterflies, various nice flowers, some birds and met friendly britons.
