"A good stopover in a motorhome. It’s a bit noisy during the day and busy with families stopping for food and drinks. There are plenty of benches and beautiful views of the water reservoir. Swimming and canoeing are not allowed. Lots of parking spaces, though the ground is a bit uneven with some potholes."

One of three lakes that feed Cardiff. Built after the cholera epidemics of 1849 in Cardiff to provide more water for better sanitation in the suburbs of Cardiff. Finished after the first world war. It's actually a really lovely place with some walks and trails on the far side. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely stunning walk. There are plenty of off tracks to walk to the edge of the water, so there are lots of drinking opportunities for thirsty pooches. If you love being with Mother Nature, this walk will not disappoint. It took us around 2.5 hours to complete, allowing for photo opportunities and the odd 5 minute rest. Depending on your starting point, you will have some B road walking, which was easy with hardly any traffic. Dog walkers BEWARE...what they don't warn you of is some of the entry and exit points along the road walk are styles and if you have a large dog, as we do, you will not get your dog through and you'll have to double back. This was very frustrating. Highly recommended...

Care must be taken due to rough ground which makes it not suitable for people with walking difficulties but the scenery of the area is beautiful and can be seen from the lay-by. At present due to low water levels a bridge can be seen at Northern end of reservoir, fishing is also available but permits required. Number of lay-bys on A470 (between Merthyr and Brecon) also parking ( not free) is available at Garw Nant (short walk to actual reservoir) which has toilets, cafe/restaurant, children's play area and additional walks in...

Despite being a wet day we had a lovely walk around the reservoir. Much of the walk is along the road so this is something to be mindful of with young children but there are plenty of picnic stops and you can walk much of the perimeter along the fishing routes which are beautiful woodland. This is a gentle walk, almost entirely flat. Just take your wellies if it's been rainy and you want to explore off the road. Make sure you take your camera too, views are...
