I came from the United States to come riding in Wales. I chose this place just by its ratings on the Internet, the kindness of the staff in every email, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I have been riding for over 50 years, I Fox hunt, dressage, and in my youth, ran barrel horses. I did not want a slow, nose to tail trail ride with beginning riders. I wanted to ride! And have the training and background to ride fast and many hours. Any one can say they ride, but this place made sure I could ride, took all safety precautions, I did bring my own breeches and boots. Amy was my guide, wonderful woman! Once we got to know each other, and she felt safe, I felt safe on a new horse, I had a blast! It could not of been any better. The quality and health of every horse was of highest standard. The saddle was good. My horse, a tall but not as thick Welcsh cob, had lovely manners and was very secure in his footing. Lively cantors / hand gallops in huge open mountain sides, walks down small paths into deep forest. Amy know her horses well! I highly recommend Amy as a guide because she is safety first, knows horses, and has a true love for the countryside. I will be back! Oh, and when I thought it could get no better, a pub stop (I had a pint, ease those knees up;-) and lunch! Amy talked about life in Wales, we shared pictures of our own...
Read moreA massive waste of money. We chose this place because we were experienced riders and wanted to go for a good canter. We booked the ride which offered 'lots of fast canters'. We spent an hour and fifty five minutes of our two hour ride WALKING. We had two trots of about fifteen seconds and three slow canters, where my horse kept falling into trot, again, less than twenty seconds. Our guide walked along with her feet out of the stirrups showing little interest. Even when it started raining she just kept plodding slowly along. Before we left she had mentioned the hot summer and the ground, but the reviews from people who rode JUST BEFORE us were raving on about the 'exhilarating canters and gallops'. I had plenty of opportunity to examine the lovely springy turf we were plodding over, it was fine. When we got back the leader just walked off. I had to call her back to ask if she wanted the horse untacking. I'm frankly disgusted. I'm a qualified riding instructor and this cost us £150. We paid for something we did not get. Three days after emailing a complaint, we've heard nothing. If I'd wanted a donkey ride, I'd have gone...
Read moreJust finished a half day ride with my son, who is on the cusp of 11yo and a total beginner. I am an experienced rider but extremely rusty.
We were matched with calm, chunky horses and spent the morning taking in the views and even got treated to a close encounter with a wild pony herd.
My son is autistic and can sometimes take his time processing instructions - this was no problem, our ride leader Jake was confidently able to step in where needed. Kiddo mentioned multiple times throughout how safe and happy he felt, which for me is the biggest win of the day.
Thank you Jake and Haydn for this experience, it has been so lovely to get back in the saddle myself and seeing Kiddo enjoy himself so much was intensely rewarding.
One word of note to anyone thinking of coming here - our tyre blew on the driveway back down and it has taken three hours to get anyone out to us! Make sure you've got snacks and water with you as this isn't an area that is readily served by roadside tyre...
