Visited the forest on a September weekend. The visitors centre and its carpark have a great view as on top of s ridge and there are plenty of relaxed spaces to enjoy the site- picnic tables, a woodland area for children to explore and a large grassy area suitable for picnics and ballgames in the summer. The centre could do with an update but it has plenty of information on all aspects of the forest and sells walking maps as well as local produce and products. Read moreI took some children on a den-building morning in December. The rain was heaving down and I managed to leave their wellies at home! The rangers were so kind, found wellies and waterproofs, and brought hot chocolate down to the copse where we all set to work building our dens. They showed us how to carry and use their loppers and both children had a fine time trimming their branches and cutting brush to cover their den. The forest centre itself is well equipped with toilets, information boards and a selection of products to purchase.
The only thing causing me to mark it down a star was the inaccurate opening times online and on the board on site it said that it was open from 2pm till 5pm we visited it 3 times 1st time was when we arrived so only had a quick look round the visited 2 more times as wanted to buy something to remember our trip but on both occasions it was closed even though online/instore...
