Thoroughbred Racing’s HQ is steeped in history dating back to start of 17th Century. There were more than the two that remain today but the actual course Rowley Mile as it is today is exactly as it’s been for centuries, untouched apart from the grass being cut. The start of the straight course almost on the horizon it is so long, not quite the 7 miles thought to be the start of the old Beacon Course. Importance of why it is that commentators mention the field is “coming out of the dip” explains why some horses give up at that point, as they emerge they see the course extends so far that some submit they aren’t aware that the winning post isn’t that far away. Another example of the versatility of British courses, each with their own unique challenges a winning horse must overcome. As a facility reasonably priced food and drink is available from a variety of outlets. Almost goes without saying that at most meetings are the races are competed for by world class horses Newmarket deserves its place at the very top of the list of courses nestled as it is in the middle of what is truly...
Read moreOveracted Whilst I appreciate Newmarket May allege to be the home for horses it has failed in my attempt to be a natural home for a horse racing fixture. Whilst it’s entrance was underrated and it felt like we where coming in the tradesmen entrance all drinks 🍸 and adhoc catering was extremely over priced for what was on offer. It felt like Newmarket was trying to compete with Ascot and the results where Clacton seafront . Whilst I understand you get what you pay for I refuse to pay for mediocre food or greasy spoon catering which all that was offer. The stands which I think we where meant to shelter but it stunk of urine and feces and the toilets had where not that much better either. Newmarket was an embarrassment to the history of horse racing and The societies that represent showmanship and racing throughout the years. Whilst I may have to go there on occasions through work and enter the same entrance as paying guests I definitely will not be going there again socially or taken any members of my...
