Stonebarrow Hill is a great starting point to go hiking over what is primarily land owned by the National Trust.
There is parking available which is free for National Trust members. A small fee is required from non members.
There is a small National Trust office located near the car park but it is not open all year round.
From here, you can walk along coastal paths to Golden Cap which is the highest point on the Jurassic Coast. The views are stunning.
At various times of the year, dog owners should be aware that sheep and cows graze in some of the fields and notices are usually posted to advise you of this.
As the seasons change, so does the flora and in springtime there is a field that's carpeted in wild flowers on the route to Golden Cap.

   Read moreI walked up the a really step Lane to Stonebarrow Hill from the camp site we were staying at. There is also a car park if you wish to drive there but there is a charge. On arriving I found it is a hill east of Charmouth, close to the Dorset coast. Luckily it was a fairly clear day so the coastal views were breathtaking and you can see Lyme Regis. It apparently has a height of 148 metres and is part of the coastal path, so from there you can walk back down into Charmouth. The footpaths can be a bit narrow in places and it's uneven in places under foot so good walking footwear would be an advantages. Make sure you take a drink & snack if your thinking of a long walk.
