Masterful Skid Pan Experience at Drive-Tech Castle Combe:

This weekend, I had an exceptional experience at Drive-Tech Castle Combe during their skid pan session, and it was an eye-opener in vehicle control.

Despite lasting longer than anticipated (a pleasant surprise!), every minute was enriching.

Enthusiastic and Knowledgeable Instructors: Despite the freezing temperatures, Dave and Scott's enthusiasm was contagious. Their upbeat demeanour and informative guidance covered skid control, ABS basics, and even a thrilling time trial. Their expertise and passion for teaching made the experience engaging and enlightening.

Eye-Opening Learning Experience: The session wasn't just a joyride but a substantial lesson in proper car control. It offered valuable insights into handling different driving scenarios, making it not only enjoyable but also crucial in improving driving skills.

Recommendation for All: Drive-Tech's skid pan course was incredible, and I highly recommend it, especially for those new to this type of experience. Despite a group of 12 participants, the session never felt overcrowded, allowing for personalized attention and a comfortable learning environment.

I had such a great time on the Skid Pan Experience on Saturday. There were 12 of us in total, split into two groups. Scott and Martyn were our instructors and both of them were fantastic, putting us at ease and making everything nice and clear. We had Scott in our group and he was great. We were able to drive both rear wheel and front wheel cars. There were three of us in each car and we just swapped around. The instructors stood in the middle of the skid pan and called out instructions.

First of all we went out and drove laps around the circuit so they could see what we could do. We then came in and had a lot of technical instruction (while the other group were out). We then went out again, driving the other way around the circuit, putting everything we had been taught into practice. We then went out with Scott who showed us how do control a straight-line skid and also how to avoid someone who may step into the middle of the road. We all then had a go at these two procedures. That was great fun.

Finally, there was an individual time trial with a medal going to the eventual winner. I had a fabulous time and certainly learnt quite a lot. To quote Martyn I certainly came away "more confident, not necessarily more competent".

What a great course. I would recommend to anyone....

I am heading off to Africa on Self drive Safari and wanted to refresh my off road driving skills before I go, so emailed Drive Tech to see if they could help with a tailored course. I wasn't disappointed.

First and foremost, I must give a huge shout-out to my instructor, Andy. He provided me with excellent one-on-one tuition throughout. His knowledge and expertise were evident from the get-go and he had a great way of explaining everything clearly and concisely.

The course itself was exactly what I was looking for. It covered all of the essentials of off-roading, including vehicle control, water crossings, obstacle negotiation, and recovery techniques from failed ascents.

If I had one negative there wasn't quite as much water to cross as I had hoped for, but the skills I learnt with the little they had will prove invaluable.

Overall, I would highly recommend Drive Tech off road training to anyone looking to improve their off-roading skills. The course was well-structured, informative and fun, and I feel well prepared for my trip.
