This was our first time ordering baby chicks (Cornish Cross), so we had no idea what to expect. We ordered online, then followed up with a telephone call to confirm our order. Once the order was complete, we received a tracking number to follow the little chicks on their road trip to Florida. Just as we were told, the 25 chicks, plus two extra, arrived 1 1/2 days later. A few were a little lethargic, comparing them to others or maybe the majority were overly excited to be out of their cozy box, however within the hour they were all eating and drinking, then they were doing face plants in the wood shavings, with wings spread out, under the heat lamp. What a sight. My gosh are they cute and Myers made our day. If everything continues this smoothly, we will never purchase another barnyard chicken from others loacally. We now know exactly what we ordered is what these chicks will grow into. Likewise, when people say they have compared hatcheries, our experience worked out so well, we have no need to compare anything to what has so far been a perfect experience. Now the ball is in our court to keep them going. Thank you Myers team.
Update; Well here we are, two days shy of our chicks being 4 weeks old, 1/2 their lifetime. All 27 chicks are still alive and well, with no issues to date. Because the Fall weather has been pleasant, we have been putting the chicks in a yard pen, with no heat, since day two of their lives. They still went into a brooder at night with the temps in the 60's. They appear to love being a chicken on real grass, rather than wood shavings. I am assuming this environment has affected their bag feed intake. From what I have read, they appear to be eating less feed then anticipated. The 27 chicks finished their 1st 50 pound bag of feed at 2.5 weeks of age. At two weeks of age they began staying outside permanently and weighed between 9-12 ounces. At three weeks of age they weighed between 12-26 ounces and now at two days shy of four weeks of age, they are finishing their 2nd bag of feed. There appear to be approx a 1/2 dozen smaller birds, a 1/2 dozen extra large birds, with the remaining birds in between. Can't wait to see their weight gains in another couple of days as they are really starting to look like chickens. Again, according to what I read, they appear to be eating less feed and weigh under their projections for this age Cornish cross. However, they appear to be having the time of their lives on new grass every day and we are certainly still elated with our first time purchase. Thanks again Myers...
Read moreDon’t waste your time with this hatchery. Zero communication. Poor management. Little to no response to emails. Rarely answer their phones and there’s no ability to leave voicemails for them because the “memory is full” (call and see for yourself) and has been since February. I emailed and received a call back today, because I asked about the lack of communication and poor customer service and asked if they could remedy this or if it would continue… I was told that they “didn’t want me as a customer if I couldn’t understand” them being short staffed and employees being out sick… that they “didn’t need to be reprimanded by me.”
I tried explaining that it wasn’t reprimanding them, but that their lack of communication is effecting my business and I need answers. All I want is communication. She just continued to speak over me. They “can’t do office work and be in the barn packing orders.” How long does it take to delete voicemails? To set up a google voice account so your voicemails never fill up and transcripts get emailed to you? I want basic courtesy when dealing with any business. This apparently isn’t something that this company can provide. I guess my 600 chicks for the season doesn’t matter, since they said they were 17,000 chicks short for shipping yesterday. 17,000 chicks would mean a minimum of $34,000 if they were $2/chick, but you can’t hire someone to be in the office and manage phones and emails for that? Something is very wrong. I cannot waste my time with a company that places blame incorrectly, blames me for “reprimanding them,” and doesn’t accept responsibility and accountability for their shortcomings. Then to say that they don’t want me as a customer when all I’m asking for is...
Read moreThis is the first time I have ordered from Myers Poultry. I have ordered from Cackle, Hoover and Murray Mcmurry and have bought in stores such as Tractor Supply and Rural King just to give you reference to my knowledge of companies that sell chicks. I placed an order for 40 chicks all the same breed. When I received them I received 41 but close to half were dead upon arrival. I thought that they maybe had been mishandled by the post office to cause this. However, I am a week in now and all that is left is 5 but I have a feeling that may decline even further. I have raised chicks for almost 20 years and never had this problem. I reached out within the first hour of receiving the chicks to let them know that also half were dead. At that time I choose a reshipment thinking that it was the post office, but after 5 days of loosing chicks daily I reached out by email because I couldn't get anyone on the phone. In the email, I questioned the health of the chicks they sent me and if there was something amiss at the hatchery. I was also concerned of the health of the chicks I was to receive as a replacement also. I am on day 3 without a response from them. After reading some reviews I now realize that I am not the only one that had this problem. I can tell you now that after this situation with my order is settled I will not use Myers again nor would I recommend...
