AK Paddlesports — Local services in Alaska

Rental was easy breezy!!! I knew I’d wanted to paddle Eklutna Lake so I opted for the delivery. Met the rep right on time (I was actually late) and the kayaks were in pristine shape. They dropped off at the road beside the lake and told us to carry the 12’ kayaks down to the waterfront. “Oh it’s an easy 20 minute walk with both kayaks.” That it was not!!! There was no way these are 5 foot four petite ladies could carry one of those kayaks by themselves, much less two. There was no rope on the front or the back so we had to use the handles. We would carry one a little bit then rest to go get the second and carry it to the first. It took us at least 30 minutes to get the kayaks to the waterfront, which was about a quarter of a mile from the drop off spot.

I’ve never rented kayaks before where you had to drag your rental a quarter of a mile to the take off spot.

But the best part was on the way back. We returned to the shoreline and again had to leap frog the yaks one at a time. Thankfully, a family from Texas visiting offered to help us carry the kayaks to the AK paddle sports truck. Did the AK Paddlesports guy load the kayaks up in the truck? Heck no lol. He told our Texas friends to load them up in the truck for him Lolol!!!

Keep this in mind if you want to paddle that lake. I also understand that the water level is always at this point during this time of the year. So if you want to Rent from this company at this location during this time of the year, you will be dragging your own kayak over a half a mile to the waterfront. No hospitality and no customer service…

Ak paddle sports is absolutely amazing! At the very last minute my family and I decided to go kayaking at mirror lake. Reservations are recommended to have done online with payment done with a card. They do have equipment to rent out for a small fee to strap the kayak/canoe onto your vehicle. Because we were renting multiple kayaks we went with the delivery. It’s best to call ahead! There are times they take their kayaks to a lake you maybe lucky and get the opportunity to rent right at a lake. We rented a two seater and a single. The two seater for my 9 year old, my 2 year old and I. With my husband using the single. I placed a car booster seat down for my two year old between my oldest and I which fit perfect. Without reservations They were were willing to squeeze us in with delivery. They were very friendly, had great customer service and helpful in picking out the correct life vests for my kids, husband and I. Absolutely recommend! My family would totally rent from them again. Their daily rental fee for paddleboards are wonderfully affordable. Seriously $30 and you get your own paddleboard from 8am til 10pm. More so the quality of their equipment is in EXCELLENT condition.

Returning their rental equipment is so easy. All you do is make sure everything is clean and you leave it by their return sign and shoot the owner a text.

The owner is kind and has a great sense of humor! She let us borrow an extra life vest when one of our party members didn't have one. I really appreciated the gesture!
