Group trip 12 people. I'm giving this an overall of 3/5. For the reasons listed below. Overall an enjoyable trip and one we would probably do again. Every part from getting into the water to getting out was great. My only criticisms are any time I wasn't on a tube.
Tubing 9/10 Food 5/10 Facilities 2/10 Staff 9/10 Equipment 6/10
Website is dated and doesn't provide clear or correct information. They claim $46 per person but it was closer to $58. (ie. Headrest tubes are an upgrade $, you can bring a cooler and rent a tube to float it on for $20) They mention straps to tie together and hand paddles, but didn't provide them without asking. (I didn't remember about the paddles until it was too late!)
River travel time depends on one of 3 start locations (Yes, there are 3) You can walk to the river from the parking lot (via Guide) only before 12pm. This will add 2 Hours to your river time (total time w/Hotdog man = ~6hrs!!!) The other two depend on time of day, they will bus you to the lowest one if you start later. (Those are 3-4Hrs w/Hotdog man)
Facilities and overall appearance has not been updated since the 90s. The place is old, there are not changing facilities or real bathrooms/showers. (The changing rooms are Pink/Blue school busses in the parking lot. The bathrooms are a row of port-a-potties. Paths leading to and from the river need to be redone with steps/stairs. They were muddy and a steep incline.
The place is run by Teenagers. Everyone we saw with the exception of the bus drivers were younger than 20. Cashiers, guides, tube handlers, food handlers, etc. There were two kids getting tubes for us that had to be 8-10 at best. (I'm not kidding, lol) All nice friendly/people, just odd Equipment was aging. Buses were old and reconfigured to carry equipment & people. Tubes were mostly a mix of new and old, but the life vests were aging and moldy and smelly musty
The river hot dogs. If you or the kids are expecting to see an actual Hotdog man, you're going to be disappointed. (I was) If you start at the hiking drop off point, you wont see a hot dog for 4+ hours. (bring food/snacks to hold you over) Once you get there you'll have to tie your stuff together and secure it on shore, tree, where ever you can. (most people were afraid of missing the food and tied off upstream of the barge. Your best bet is to pass the barge and there will be a large stony beach.) Keep an eye on your stuff as there was one case where people mixed up tubes and had to ask the staff for a spare
The setup for food isn't great. Its a floating barge where they boil hot dogs and grill burgers. You get a choice of 2 dogs (or 1 burger), drink, and snack (chips/candy bar) The line for food is in the water and slippery so expect to juggle a drink and two hot dogs back to shore. I counted a total of 3 picnic tables for at least 75+ people. Find a spot, a log, the ground, a tube and eat your hot dog where ever you can. (it will be the best hot dog of your life because of how hungry you will be) I didn't see a single port-a-potty on the island
The garbage cans were overflowing and patrons could care less about throwing trash on the floor near flowing water. Nice staff kid came over after a bit and started cleaning up the trash, he later helped some people that had their tube go flat and another that lost their tube
NO ALCOHOL! Did I get your attention? Good. They have signs up for no alcohol everywhere. They claim to check your cooler and confiscate all alcohol... They didn't. I don't know if we were lucky or what, but they never checked our cooler. That said there were a few groups that were trashed
Very little instruction. What if we need to exit? What if there is Lightning? Can we get off early? (I have no idea, but ask ahead of time)
Tips Go on a weekday (weekends = crowded) Bring your own cooler and tube/kids inflatable boat to float it. Bring your own food/snacks. Get water shoes (or old sneakers) and waterproof bags in advance Wear a hat Bring Sunscreen and reapply constantly. FYI your arms will chafe...
Read moreI just think people should know that this place is totally run by kids and when you have a real problem they just stare at you. After we stood in line for 2 hours, which was not the worst thing, completely understood the line, we were told we could wait for the bus which looked liked it could be a half hour wait or longer, or we could take a âseveral minute walkâ right to the river. This was the choice we made and it was the worst decision ever. The path was a nature trail and that was fine too, but it was not easy and a kid walked us about Three minutes in and then proceeded to tell us he could not guide us any further go up to the angled tree and make a left and hollow the path. Well the path was not defined, and there were two steep hills to walk down with my 8 year old and two giant tubes. Once we actually find the river which was not easy we are put on our tubes and told we should be arriving at the hot dog man in two and half hours. This was at 3pm. I am not sure what happened, but we moved slow, there were four of us, 3 adults and 1 child all tied together with no paddles as the website said there would be. We were just floating and initially having fun. The river was beautiful, without a doubt. We watched as eventually most others in the same tubes passed by us. We were mostly being bushed by the current and the wind close to the shore line. We realized soon all though we didnât get on the river last, we were last and now no one was around us. Eventually the river boat came to us and told us we were 10-15 minutes away from the hot dog man, they said when we got there we could be done and they were waiting for us. We got there at 7:15 and they looked at us in horror, and asked us what took us so long, where did we stop what were we doing? We didnât stop anywhere and we never took any trails, and we were just floating like we were supposed to. They had no food for us just a snack and water, and we had to travel the next 2 1/2 hours to the exit. I asked them if they could just take us to the end because I had an 8 year old and being on the water til after 9 was a little scarey and I didnât think it would be really safe considering the trip was supposed to be 4 hours and we were already on the trip for 4 hours I didnât think we had 2 1/2 more hours in us. They stared at us blankly and they made us feel like it was our fault this was taking us so long and maybe so because we never did this before. Anyway they made us continue in and we did try. About two hours into it the sun was going down it was freezing. My husbands phone got a signal and I called I asked them to come get us my son was having a little panic attack and rightfully so, he was stuck in the middle of a river with no light. The same kids from the hot dog stand did come get us and they took us back But as they approached us they literally just stared at us blankly like they couldnât understand what our problem was. My problem was the sun was going down it was freezing and my child was fearing for his life. Nothing I could say could convince him we were ok. All the other reviews are correct, no one is exaggerating, the end of this river run sucks. You get off the tube the water is up to your neck and after 9pm at night itâs freezing. The only thing wet was my bottom and now my whole body is submerged and I climb out onto the deck and look at literally a mountain thatâs like135 degree angle practically straight up, itâs muddy and slippery and I had to climb it with my hands and feet and ask my child to do the same in the pitch black darkness. And pray we didnât fall backwards because I did almost do that twice. The intention of this whole trip was to have fun as a family, instead we were looked at and guided like we were crazy. Who gets out of a river and climbs their way out? We were covered in mud. Turns out the bus driver was really nice and informative. My suggestion is donât take the walking path onto the river after 2, and know that it adds more then an hour to your trip and pray to God the current cooperates, and there should be more...
Read moreThis place values tubes and rafts over human life. They do not care about their customers in the slightest and would let you drown just to get their tube back. I went with 4 friends to Delaware River Tubing because we thought it would be relaxing and fun. It was neither. When we first arrived we asked to use the bathroom. They told us to use the two porta potties outside. Both were swarming with flies, smelled atrocious, and were pooped in. This was the first red flag, but we decided to still give them a chance. After paying and picking out tubes we boarded the bus. The bus driver flat out said she didnât know where the end point was and she dropped us off, but gave no direction: didnât tell us what we could and could not do, didnât tell us about any check points, when we would get our lunch we paid for, etc. The river was beautiful, but we couldnât enjoy it because we were so busy trying to maneuver ourselves away from the tree branches. They had no paddles for us, which wouldâve made this much easier. We endured this for about close two hours until we finally saw some young kid with the companyâs shirt on yelling in the middle of the river to get a hot dog. Behind him was another young guy on a boat grilling. I guess we were supposed to swim up and he would throw us a hot dog? We were supposed to eat it in the tube? - please note that we paid for two hot dogs, a drink, and a snack. How were we supposed to paddle with our hands and juggle all of that food? The current was so bad that we couldnât even get somewhat close to the young guy grilling hot dogs so we missed it. Weâve been in the heat for over two hours now, with no food, no bathroom break, and no end in sight. No boats from the company checking to see if people are ok. In an effort to give us more of a push away from the branches I sat up further in the tube and kicked my legs. It worked, but I fell in the river and couldnât get myself back in the tube b/c of its size. Also, there was no where to pull over. My friend and I swam for a half hour holding the tubes looking for some help. There was no help to be found and eventually the current started to get very strong and was dragging us. We were petrified and starting screaming hoping someone would hear us. Luckily, two very nice men who were enjoying a day of fishing saw us and actually pulled us into their boat and took us to shore. They even got our tubes into their boat as well. Delaware River boating staff did not ask if we were ok, ignored us, and actually yelled at me to get out of the way when they were collecting the tubes. I had lost my shoe in the river and was having a hard time walking. I was trying to avoid getting my shoeless foot cut on glass. Instead of assisting me they rudely told me to get out of the way and board the bus. When we got back to their offices they offered us one free slice of pizza being that we missed the hot dog boat. My friend asked for two and they actually told her no. At this point, I was very angry. I told this young girl who was the manager about our experience and she apologized, used the excuse that the season just started, and gave me two free tubing tickets. I was disgusted. I am normally not one to write bad reviews, but I am doing this because I think this activity is extremely dangerous. If my friend and I didnât know how to swim and werenât in somewhat decent shape we definitely wouldâve drowned and died. I understand that thereâs risk involved with an activity like this, but this company needs to take some responsibility and have a few workers on the river in case someone gets hurt, gets sick, or needs assistance. You canât expect people to float in the sun for five straight hours without food or a bathroom break. That is inhumane and cruel. They treat their customers like objects and not like people. They barely gave us what we paid for and put us in danger. Do not come here and please, I beg you, do not take your children here. This company needs to be shut down immediately before someone dies or gets very...
