tldr Chris Brown and Spin Society are amazing, would highly recommend using them for any DJ needs.

I don’t typically write reviews but felt like I needed to provide a summary of my wonderful experience working with Chris Brown and Spin Society. First, looking for a wedding DJ can be challenging. I had talked with a few DJs and was left disappointed with the inflexibility or unwillingness to stray from the standard “wedding playlist” of Timber by Pitbull or the Electric Slide. My fiancé and I then met with Chris and were thrilled to hear about his previous experience and felt comfortable putting the night into his hands.

The build up to the wedding was good. They sent a survey for us to complete a few weeks out from the wedding, essentially evaluating what type of music we liked, our family liked, and our friends liked. This was his process of understanding the dynamics of the wedding attendees to ensure the best night possible. We then met with him over Zoom (we live out of the state) and he asked all the questions we had not even considered.

The wedding itself was amazing. We wanted a special moment for our grandparents who recently celebrated their 65th anniversary and Chris helped us set that up for them so they wouldn’t be uncomfortable. Regarding the music, Chris was awesome of matching the energy of the crowd. He started the night with music that would be more inclusive towards our older crowd and later in did a great job transitioning to music a younger crowd would like. We had about 7-8 must plays, other than that we wanted him to have the freedom to play off of the crowd and use his experience. I would highly recommend giving him this creative freedom. He was quick to move on from a song that may have not matched the vibe of the crowd which was especially important. We are less than 24 hours removed from the wedding and everyone has commented about how awesome the DJ was and how much fun they had on the dance floor.

3.5 stars- Overall, we had a good experience with Spin Society and a fun night on the dance floor! Our guests, especially those our age, danced all night and had a great time. The music selection kept the energy up, and we’re so grateful for how special the evening felt overall.

That said, there were a few areas that didn’t quite meet the high expectations we had based on the company’s reputation and pricing. Our DJ was changed twice during the planning process, which we understood can happen, and we trusted we’d still be matched with someone great, but was disappointing since we had originally booked requesting one of two specific DJs. Our final planning call left us feeling confident, but some of the details we discussed didn’t quite come through during the night.

We had provided guest song requests and asked that more of the classic wedding favorites and older songs play earlier in the evening to get our families dancing before transitioning to more “millennial” music later on. While we didn’t expect every request to be played, the big crowd-pleasers were missed, and the flow of music didn’t always match the energy in the room. A few of our special dances were also cut off a bit abruptly instead of faded out, which was a minor detail but noticeable in the moment.

We were also a little surprised to learn that the DJ hadn’t played the hora before when we asked them to help instruct, so a family member stepped in on the mic to help lead that moment. It all worked out, but I guess expected them to have experience in different wedding traditions.

DJ Justin was my DJ for my wedding reception. I had known him way back in college when he DJed an event. We reconnected at a friend’s wedding he was also DJing. Once I knew my date and venue, I knew I had to get him on the books.

WOW! I didn’t leave the dance floor for one second. Justin knew the vibe, the music I wanted and executed. Even my mom and aunts were dancing all night. I told Justin I wanted the dance floor packed all night and that it was. He played a mix of everything and actually mixed. It wasn’t just a Spotify playlist playing songs.

I also have to say Justin was so supportive through our reception. Right as my husband and I were introduced into the reception, the power went out. At first I thought Justin had something up his sleeve, but then I quickly realized what was happening. He came running over to us, told us to keep going with the schedule, and then even came over to talk us through what he was doing to get it back on. The next morning I even saw he posted an SOS on Facebook for generators and any help. He made us feel so taken care of. And once the power came back on, he immediately went to work.
