Morgan's Cowpoke Haven — Local services in Alliance

I think this is the old Spade Ranch general store. I was here twice. Once as a child and once again when I was flying as a charter pilot to nearby Ogallalla (sic). The story of the Spade Ranch is a forgotten tale of fencing and public lands which went all the way to the Supreme Court. At one time the Spade ranch had land claims from New Mexico almost to the Canadian border. These claims were invalidated due to the government claiming the Spade folks had illegally fenced public land. This also played a major role in allowing more folks to homestead during our westward expansion.

Anyway, this store is historically significant and sells everything from hats to snacks to ammunition.

Authentic! So few places like this that aren’t simply trying to look like Morgans.
