My wife and I pulled off I-70 west to originally get some fried peach pie. But the pie place that was in the gas station was closed for the day. I’m a 100% permanent and totally disabled veteran. I have a service dog which is a miniature bulldog. My wife had walked into the Alma cheese store which is also in the gas station and I was a little bit behind her. And the lady that was working in the store asked me what is that my emotional support dog for. I replied she is a service dog and it is illegal to ask me anything about my service dog. She was very rude and made several assumptions about my dog that she may potty in her store because it has happened before and told me I could not come in with my service dog. When there is a sign on the gas station door that excepted service dog. As a veteran and being African American I feel all that played a role in not giving me service. Along with my dog. I feel if there is anyone out there that looks like me or have a disability and a service animal stay away from this place. This is just the start of what I am about to do to warn people to stay away...
Read moreOn the positive side, it is new, clean and attached to a large travel mart to the right off the Interstate ramp. There's a large selection of cheese products and I'm an old fan of Alma Creamery cheese curds. On the negative, the advertising billboards do not clearly state where it is located, and you can't see the store from the road. The billboards claim free tasting, but the young man and woman in the store never offered and seemed mostly interested in each other. I thought the prices were more than I pay for Alma cheese curds at the grocery store. On a side note, reviewer YuNg WaVyy writes that he was asked, "what is my emotional support dog for. I replied it is illegal to ask me anything about my service dog." He is misinformed. A business has the right to ask, not the person's disability, but what service the animal is trained to perform. Perhaps the clerk didn't use the proper formula in...
Read moreI had heard about this place before but didn't realize how popular it was until after a hilarious Facebook post from the local sheriff's department went viral (Headwaters Road anyone??? 😆) and everyone was singing the praises of Wabaunsee County so I decided to take a drive to check it out.
I'm very happy I did as we have now found a new destination for those days we need an impromptu road trip and we'll be doing this frequently bc the fresh curds are to DIE FOR and who doesn't want cheese! They'll even flavor it for you and that squeak is ADDICTIVE!!
Not exaggerating. Also the kids running the shop are lovely and clearly enjoy what they're doing.
No, i didn't get stuck on the agonal hellscape bc of that PSA. 😆😆😆
We live in Kansas because of these kinds of places. Love the humor, love the cheese and love the smiling faces. Keep up the...
