This parking lot is always crowded! Chances are if you don't get there early enough you're going to have to park on the road. The parking lot at self is well maintained and the trails are well-marked. There are also a few handicap spaces. Out of all of the parking lots to access the Belknap range, this is the most used and most advertised. There are plenty of other ways to access the Belknap range, but this seems to be the most popular, especially for school groups and tourists who read about Mount Major somewhere and decide they want to climb it. So if you don't want to deal with the crowds I would suggest parking at Jesus Valley Road and taking that trail up to Mount Major because it's a lot less...
