It is my partner's third semester attending Northern Virginia Community College, and each year, the school takes exponentially longer to disperse financial aid. We are nearly half way through the semester, and he still has not received the funds he was awarded. He now needs to find part-time work in order to survive because the school is incompetent to disperse funds during the beginning of the semester. Students should not have to worry about securing funds for housing and food while receiving higher education. This is a complete failure, and anyone responsible should be reprimanded and/or fired for their gross...
Read moreMost people on the reviews are unhappy about the school's tuition prices. I honestly don't have much knowledge about price within the U.S higher education system (was on a full financial aid) but, apart from the price topic NOVA is a great school! First the quality of education is top notch. Second almost all the professors and advisors I've worked with were very supportive and caring for students' success. Third as long as you made the most use of them NOVA's got plenty of free and available state of the art high quality resources to help students succeed and have a great college experience. Library, tutoring centers, labs, open computer labs, student life, clubs, bookstores, cafes, lounges, etc, and even internship career connections! On top of all that you get to transfer to any four year college of your choice while holding an associate degree or some certificate which comes as beneficial for your internship or part time job. NOVA's campus environment and physical area is equivalent to a university. It's a wonderful school for a community college! SN: It's the second largest and one of the top community colleges in...
Read moreOK. So I am a Alumni. I just have one beef with the school and that is the academic advisor that they gave me. Her name is Karen (I totally forgot her last name). She was so inconsistant and totally unreliable when it came to helping me succeed at NOVA. She told me that I needed a certain GPA to graduate NOVA. By the end of the spring 2023 semester, I looked at my transcript and had a complete meltdown. Two or three months later, I got my diploma in the mail. SHE TOOK MY CHANCE AWAY TO WALK! Please, I beg of those who are registering to attend NOVA, if you get her as an academic advisor, run as far away as you can or ask for your advisor to be changed. She belittles those with mental disabilities and is inconsistent with her logic on certain courses. I repeat: If you get her as an academic advisor, run in the other direction and ask for your academic advisor...
