I was a customer of American Home Shield warranty company from 2019 to 2022. In 2021, I began experiencing issues with my heater. A contractor affiliated with American Home Shield came out to assess the problem and determined it was electrical in nature. American Home Shield then dispatched Moen Electric to address the issue. At that time, I believed the problem had been resolved.
Since I reside in Texas, where it rarely gets very cold, I seldom use my heater. I typically rely on a desk heater in the rooms I occupy and keep the central heater set to 65 degrees during the winter. In December 2023, I began receiving services from Choice Home Warranty. At the end of December 2024, I noticed that my heater was not turning on. Consequently, I contacted Choice Home Warranty to schedule an inspection.
The following is the assessment provided by the technician on January 6, 2025:
01/06/2025: THE HEAT KIT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY MODIFIED FROM ITS FACTORY STATE. ALL WIRING FOR THE THIRD HEAT STRIP HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE 25A BREAKER AND LEFT EXPOSED INSIDE THE UNIT. ON THE LOAD SIDE OF THE 60A BREAKER HEAVY GAUGE WIRE WAS PUT IN AND CONNECTED TO THE CONTACTOR. FOR THE FIRST TWO HEAT STRIPS AND THE HEAT STRIPS WIRED TO ALL COME ON WITH POWER FROM THE SINGLE 60A BREAKER. THE CONTACTOR IS FRIED ALONG WITH THE CABLES CONNECTED TO IT AND THERE IS EVIDENCE OF BURNING INSIDE THE CABINET. IMPROPER INSTALLATION. HEAT KIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH CORRECT HEAT KIT AND CONTACTOR AS WELL. I KILLED ALL POWER TO SYSTEM.
Following this alarming report, I contacted American Home Shield and was advised to reach out to Moen Electric directly. When I spoke with Moen Electric, they flatly refused to fix the issue, claiming they could not verify whether anyone else had made repairs after their work. I assured them this was not the case, as no one else had worked on the unit, but they remained uncooperative and rude.
I am certain that no one has tampered with the system since Moen Electric's initial repair. Given the severity of the safety hazard they created and their lack of accountability, I strongly advise others against using this company. Their disregard for customer safety and failure to take responsibility is appalling.
This is not the end of this matter. I intend to pursue further actions to address this...
Read moreTroy was not punctual, as he was 4 days late to the service dispatch request by our home warranty company. After finally coming, he did not fix the problem. He actually did not even connect the wires in the outlet back properly, causing more issues and required us to eventually call upon another electrical company. When the problem began arising again (less than 12 hours after he left the property), we tried to contact Troy through our home warranty, but he was extremely disrespectful on the phone while repetitively saying the problem was not electrical. We even had another technician come, per request of Troy, who confirmed the issue was electrical in nature and not the actual appliance. I would not trust Troy to touch any electrical circuit or appliance in our household, as he caused more harm than good...
Read moreCompany worked on unit in our complex and a fire started later that day in the exact same location involving the exact same equipment they worked on - they used a 20-amp breaker instead of the AC equipment's stated 15-amp breaker, if my understanding of the language is correct. Company refuses to provide insurance carrier's information although any vendor used by the association or an owner should provide that as a condition of and prior to performing any work on...
