I'm lucky enough to work for a couple that had a house built right on the Peace river. You can sift for fossils and sharks teeth in the middle of the river when the water is at it's lowest from late fall til late April. The water at some point's are so low there are several areas with not enough water to pass over with out really navigating where the water is a lot of times I've seen that it's easier for people to get out of the canoe and kind of pull it across being wet sand bottom. If you're lucky enough to find this particular spot there's people that come there every year and find all kinds of fossils. One of the coolest things I've seen when the water is really low is on either side of the riverbank there is sections of fossilized Rock this is just an amazing area where I've seen some of the most amazing century old areas. One place in particular is heading Downstream on the right hand side not too far after you passed under the trestle. I've been making it a point to go to this area in the fall as much as possible around February for the last 5 years and it's so quiet and peaceful. I took my best friend there the only thing I told him before we got there as I found a really cool area and it's so close to the backside of the property and his reaction was like mine the first time he seen it. Needless to say we visited that area quite a few times this past fall. Growing up I was not peaceful but very angry person and as I've gotten older and have kids of my own I've learned to appreciate things like this the first time finding it I felt drawn to it almost like it found me in a way. I think at that moment I truly realized how blessed we are with some of these more overlooked peaceful quiet things in nature that are so...

Read moreGorgeous and interesting paddling on a beautiful river! See real Florida on this river. Went out from Payne’s Creek State Park and paddled north in our Tribe 13.5 tandem. The low water level made for great viewing of the bottom and fish. The banks are loaded with Cypress trees and knees which looked like little villages. Turtles and birds were out enjoying the perfect January weather. It was sunny and 73–superb way to...
