Being a first time dog owner, I was at the end of my rope and decided to either re-home my three year old dog or get some serious help. I developed a friendship with JJ and decided to invest and I’m so glad I did.

My Golden Retriever is a very high energy dog and I spent a lot of money with two previous trainers which did not help. But they did put a dent in my pocketbook. I tried to train my dog myself by watching online videos, but I needed customized help to show me what I was doing wrong.

An internationally known dog trainer, Larry Krohn, is a personal friend of JJ and speaks very highly of JJ. I’ve followed Larry Krohn for years and spoke with him a few times. I wanted to find a trainer who trained like Larry. Too many trainers use abusive techniques which can get results, but can be abusive and have harmful side effects. So trust was a major issue with me. The second major issue was I needed one last and final trainer. I did not have the funds to keep trying out different trainers.

Dropping my dog off for the 4 week board and train was difficult. Four weeks seemed like an eternity. But the time went by super fast. The results have been miraculous. JJ and his crew learned my dog, trained my dog and then trained me. A month has gone by and I am still thrilled at the results.

My very reactive dog was so uncontrollable around new guests, while visiting pet stores and walking past other dogs. Now, we work as a team and I know what to do to keep my dog in a calm state of mind. His recall is great. I can now take him to a large field and let him run freely and have confidence knowing he will return when I call him. I can take him to any store and he behaves so well. I found Proven K9 online when getting an idea of costs to train Duke who we’d recently adopted. The owner did an excellent job of walking me through my options and costs. It took another 5 months before I actually signed him up and I was pleasantly surprised by the owners follow up. It wasn’t pushy or trying to sell me, he was simply checking in on Duke. Once we decided to send Duke to Proven K9, they were amazing! Samantha (Sammie) was Duke’s trainer and she truly treated him as if he was her dog. Compassionate for his traumatic past and extremely patient with him. He was really high energy and weary of men to the point of being aggressive. Duke went for three weeks, and while our family was sad to have him gone that long he came home a completely changed dog! Sammie sent me regular emails including pictures, outlining exactly what they were working on and updates on how he was progressing. We took advantage of the opportunity to visit him on the weekends and get one on one training with her. While I understand that his training will be ongoing here at home, I couldn’t be happier with him now. We could not recommend Proven K9 Training more! Sammie had our dogs for the two-week board and train, and they came back like new dogs. Sammie does an amazing job letting the dogs show their personalities and meeting them right where they’re at. We have one dog that is overly confident and one that is a bit more timid but she handled them both so well and taught them to be independent of one another. They got to do an abundance of solo and group training sessions in their facility and more importantly, out in public. Sammie and her team showcase extreme patience and knowledge when working with every dog. We got report cards every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the form of an extensive email explaining what they’ve been working on and how each dog was responding and progressing. At the halfway point you get to go see your dogs and watch them do a training session. When it’s time to pick the dogs up and go home, you get a multi-hour training session with your dogs so you can practice how to incorporate all the things they’ve learned when you bring them back to their home environment. Sammie provided tips on how to quickly correct them and when and how to reward. Our favorite command they learned is “place” as it will help in everyday life when new people enter our home, strangers are at the door, or we simply don’t want them in our space. Sammie also trained both dogs how to heel on walks and that they don’t get to lead. This is going to be a complete game changer for us as walks have always been such a task with two dogs that love to pull.
