We parked the car at the base of the mountain, not near the souvenir shop but a little farther inside the gate, and then hiked all the way up. Due to the elevation, it was a moderate hike, but well worth the effort. It took us about 50 minutes to reach the top.
At the summit, there were restrooms and a water station for refilling bottles, which was a nice touch. From there, we did a short 0.1-mile hike to a slightly higher viewpoint, offering a spectacular view of the border.
The walk down was much easier, allowing us to take in more of the scenery and appreciate the surrounding plants. There were also a few more trails available for those who preferred to drive up and start their hike from a higher point.
