One of the most spectacular views in southeastern Arizona. The short 0.4 mile hike up to Montezuma Peak is always an exhilarating walk. This Arizona National Scenic Trail begins here at the US Mexico border. Unfortunately, they are planning on blowing up this mountain to build a stupid, useless border wall. Do you feel the danger here? Of course not. Take in the unobstructed view while you can because our government would rather destroy its protected areas in the name of a so-called immigration crisis, instead of building the infrastructure needed to manage immigration at the ports of entry.

Montezuma pass is a very beautiful place bring your camera lots of water and food. The last 2 miles of the journey are on a pretty good dirt road I took my little Hyundai sedan and was fine. There are two major hiking trails up at the top one two Coronado peak. And the other one is the Arizona trail which goes up to Miller peak and up to the Utah border from there. Spectacular views facing cananea and Sonora views of the Sierras and the mountains into mexico.

This is a great little adventure road trip that can be enjoyed with anything from a little Mini Copper to Full out 4x4, stunning views up here. Now, I would suggest that you have a basic understanding of driving on rough narrow terrain, make sure you have adequate amount of water and tires are in good shape. Very rocky winding road. Plenty of trails around this area and small rest stops. As always check weather forecast etc -

We parked the car at the base of the mountain, not near the souvenir shop but a little farther inside the gate, and then hiked all the way up. Due to the elevation, it was a moderate hike, but well worth the effort. It took us about 50 minutes to reach the top.

At the summit, there were restrooms and a water station for refilling bottles, which was a nice touch. From there, we did a short 0.1-mile hike to a slightly higher viewpoint, offering a spectacular view of the border.

The walk down was much easier, allowing us to take in more of the scenery and appreciate the surrounding plants. There were also a few more trails available for those who preferred to drive up and start their hike from a higher point.

Overall, I’d rate this place highly. The national park and souvenir shop were lovely, with a small historical display on the wall featuring photos. There were also binoculars and two seats available for birdwatching. I even spotted one of the birds—it...
