I sent my daughter to cedar lodge because I know she would be safe especially around the horses , I am a equestrian professional myself so I donât let just anybody teach or let my daughter ride horses I know for a fact they are all certified instructors in CHA . They are the only camp in Michigan that as certified cha instructors I have worked at another camp with horses ymca they were not certified and there horses were not handled much Or ridden before campers ride them . Thatâs why I chose cedar lodge because I know for a fact they only use safe horses and let beginners ride easy horses and horses that are worked regularly and cared for properly. How do I know that well I started my career at cedar lodge I had safety training in CHA and learned everything before hand then that gave me a head start when I was accepted into Michigan state university in the horse management/ animal science program. And from there on I worked and traveled all over the country and Canada for Olympic riders I remembered a lot of my training and even gave my bosses daughter her first riding lessons. If it wasnât for cedar lodge I probably wouldnât of even had the passion to go to college at all . My daughter went to cedar lodge and rode her first horse Wich was a great experience. She wasnât as horse crazy as I was but she was into art , and cedar lodge has a great art program where she made lots of cool stuff even pottery . She also learned how to swim without help from a floating device , she learned to be a strong enough swimmer to be in the 2nd level. I was not worried at all because I know all the training the life guards have to do because I had to learn it too . Amy said she was ready so thatâs good enough for me . My daughter also was exposed to music like the piano and guitar. After camp she started taking piano lessons and guitar lessons she has her own keyboard and guitar, I think it gave her the confidence at school to be in 3 talent showâs singing and she had interest in the set design for school plays she was the lead artist to paint the scenes . After high school she went to Art college and became a great artist. I know cedar lodge was a great influence in her career. I wish I could turn back time and be a kid again and have that opportunity to be a camper. In reference to the reviews the kids have to behave just as they would if there were in school, summer camp is fun but you have to follow the rules and one rule is no fighting. . I know schools have 0 tolerance it there is an incident everyone involved guilty or not guilty gets suspended but first they get a visit from the police and they asses the situation and decide if charges need to be filed they have that authority then they call the parents in . Maybe camps should have 0 tolerance but they decided it was late at night and they handled it accordingly. If I was a parent and I got a non emergency call at 11 i would be mad not at the camp but at my daughter. Getting me all worried in the middle of the night over something they did and it not being an emergency. You ever here the saying donât call me unless someoneâs dying ? Lol. Ya there would be consequences and not only that i would be embarrassed and ashamed that my daughter canât behave when sheâs away from home . We teach kids to walk away from altercations not to make them . As far as there safety there in the safest place they can be In especially with all the trained staff. There also in one of the safest towns that has that small home town feel where itâs safe to take a group out biking into town or take a group to the movies or take them to the beaches in Michigan also the small hometown fair is one of the nicest where itâs safe to take a group of kids for the day of fun . When I worked up north at ymca kids are stuck at camp they donât get that experience. Also cedar lodge is the only camp around with a horse show team and teaches vault ing...
Read moreI'm neurodivergent and had never even considered overnight camp before I saw an ad for Cedar Lodge and felt it in my soul that I needed to go. I was a kid who called for pickup at midnight at every sleepover and to say my mom was nervous to commit to sending me for a full week is an understatement.
I went every year after until I aged out and even convinced my mom to send me two weeks one of those summers. This place became my home away from home, when I think of where I felt most accepted and relaxed and effortlessly happy- This is where I imagine.
If you're worried about where to send your kids, this place is for you. You won't find a more caring, considerate, and patient...
Read moreCedar Lodge has helped me develop life long friendships and skills that I have continued to maintain/utilize well into my adult life. It is truly a place that allows kids to be kids, to get dirty, to try new things in a safe environment, and to meet people that they would ordinarily walk by on a day to day basis. The friendships and memories that Cedar Lodge alumni have is a true testimony to what even 1 week of camp can provide. Why else would we come back as staff, parents, friends for year upon years? It is and will always be my home...
